Difficulty selecting 1st gear

Hi ya, i drive a Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.8t, petrol 2005 plate, i have noticed that occasionally i cannot get it to go into first gear, i have to let go of the clutch and try again, aftera few times it will eventually go into first. Has anyone got any ideas as to what this could be, or if it is anything to worry about?

Id take it back to the dealers and get them to take a look at it, warrenty still fine so why risk it!?

How often does it happen. I have it with my car that im chaning soon. Apparently its not a fault or anything. If it is a rare occasion then its probably the same.

Sometimes when you try to go into first from second the cogs on the gears don't line up there for you cant get it into gear until they have lines up. One side of the clutch plate is always spinning hence why after a few trys you can get it into gear as the cogs have lined up properly.

not all the time but i find just raising the clutch pedal allows it to pop in ok not really bothered me that much as it allways goes in second time so thought nothing of it really.

Yeah sounds like what my garage said to me. Cogs not lined up. You will always find it will go in after 2 or 3 trys. It dosent bother me now as i know what it is and its such a rare occassion that it happens

Mine does it in 5th occasionally. Maybe it will be better once my uprated clutch is fitted.

i find that happens also on my fr ... when pulling up at traffic lights

My 1.8T FR does exactly the same thing. I have to put it in 2nd and then into 1st before i can move off. Only happens occasionaly so i've just put it down to being a 'quirk' of the Ibiza gearbox.
