differences between leon and ibiza engines

hey guys, dunno if u can help, or weather im just being really stupid. but what is the difference between the seat ibiza cupra engine and the seat leon cupra engine as they are both 1.8t 20v but the ibiza has 156bhp and the leon has 180bhp standard, is it all to do with having a different turbo? or is there some differences between the engines.

Probably just the engine mapping as the Ibiza Cupras could be remapped to the same values as the Ibiza Cupra R's which had the 180bhp engines.

leon cupras have a ko3s turbo, mapping is different, so its the intercooler. ibiza have a ko3 turbo

Furthermore, if you look at pictures of the engine bay, the charge pipe from turbo runs over the block for Ibiza. For Leon (and TT) it runs behind and round the side of block.
As for the turbo...the ibiza has a turbo with 12 blades, whereas the Leon has turbo with 8 blades. Less blades (which are slightly bigger) means higher boost...which in the end equals to more BHP.

If you read more on the site here you will see that many many members here upgrade their Ibiza's to the K03s turbo from the 180 HP cars...

from what I was aware, they drop a 6 speed box in the leon also, whereas bizas only have 5

All Leon 1.8T's are 6 speed. Early 180 engines are K03, later are K03s. On the cupra the charge pipe goes down the back of the engine, round the drivers side and to the front to the intercooler infront of the drivers side wheel behind the fog light.

yer its just the standard leon cupra i was talking about. but engine wise its gunna be the same its just the other parts that make the differece.

Yes, just an AMK block and head is not going to give you any more bhp over a standard Ibiza Cupra.

the blocks aint gonna be exactly the same, so depending on what ecu its running something wont add up right? do you know what ecu its running?

i fink the car was in an accident and the previous owner decided he would put the amk engine in, the car works fine tho, and i got it cheap so im not really complainin as i wanted a project car and thats def what this is, lol
