Right, worked out
how to unplug it - just give it a damn hard yank!
Anyway, the car starts doing the usual crap today so I pull over and disconnect the MAF sensor. Within a second or two the engine starts making a different noise, ie not as juddery and spluttery (new word there!
). Drive off and it feels like a new car! Turbo kicks in where it should, constant pull through the rev range, no blips in power anywhere! I thought it might be coincidence (as it does stop doing it on its own after a while) so I pull over and connect it up again. Within a second the engine is making the original noise and sounding a bit "rough". Drive off and it's the same as before - sluggish, not feeling the turbo pull until about 2.5K revs, dips in power etc etc.
I try the same again (disconnecting, driving and then re-connecting) and lo and behold, it's the same.
So - I think I have nailed it down (at least in my case!!) to the MAF!!
I'll be going in for a service in about 4K miles/ 8 weeks so I'm going to get it replaced then. However, when I originally posted in this thread in September I had it in at the dealers twice at the cost of about £110 and they couldn't find anything up with it, even though they admitted there was a
problem - I video'ed the engine making the strange noise and sent it to them as proof!!! Do I ask for a discount on these grounds?? I'm pissed off that I have had to diagnose the
problem myself and yet have still shelled out a hundred quid for it!! It was just outside warranty when it started happening. I wonder if it's worth asking SEAT UK to cover some of it - it's not my fault that it took six months to find the issue!!
Or am I pissin in the wind here lol!?
Any idea on the cost of a new MAF inc fitting? I'm reckoning somewhere between £100 and £150??!
