Diagnosis Light on Dash...

Got a problem with light on dash, would be grateful of any help...

Just bought my first Leon (2001 Cupra), had it for about a month now.
Last night this yellow warning light came on & stayed on:

Quote from instruction book:
"Diagnosis/Excess of Pollution - This pilot light lights when the ignition is switched on as a testing device and goes out after a few seconds. In case of a failure due to an excess of pollution it will start to flash."

However, mine doesn't flash (it just stays on). And it doesnt have the lightning strike symbol through it, just the engine symbol.

Anyone had this problem before?
If I take it to a dealer, will they plug it in to find out whats wrong? And charge me for the privilege and all?

I got a 3 month warranty on engine & gearbox, but worried this isn't gonna be covered...

Cheers

Just needs plugging into diagnostics

Will more than likely be the coolant sensor (change it sooner rather than later) cost for a new one is about £17

Thanks for the quick answer man, appreciated.

Just gave the local Seat dealer a shout, they sayin £29+VAT for a half hour diagnostic before we start, then take it from there...

Total novice when it comes to Seat (and vagcom) but I'd be happy to change the sensor myself. And now I'm wondering if I'm gonna have to pay £35 every time I want somethin checked out?

If this is the case, would it be worth splashin out for the cable & software to run myself? Or hookin up with someone who's already got one...

mate, get an aftermarket cable off ebay
Rig it up to freeware version of VAGCOM on a laptop and click scan!
Thats how i found out about my probs, cable cost me £15

dont just buy any old cable though, make sure you check with some of us here first

Either that or buy the proper cable and software if you can afford it

I'm going to when i get some spare cash

drop me an email if you want codes checking - no point paying motorvague to rip you for £29 when they won't have a clue what the codes mean anyway.

Cheers for the advice boys, still surprised at how helpful/friendly/quick the peeps are on here... This site is the best find in ages.

Looked at a couple cables on the web, whadaya reckon to this one?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....earch.dll?from=R40&satitle=330030649010&fvi=1

This one is compatible with OBD2 vehicles, not compatible with motors on the CAN-BUS system. Check me out, sounding like I know what I'm talkin about! I don't. You reckon this cable would do the job?

Thanks a lot

Does the freeware version of Vagcom tell you the error codes ?

If so, whats the difference between the freeware version & full version (i'm assuming limited functionality in the freeware - but if it's only diagnostic you need, your sorted)

Cool, got vagcom cable on the way. Got some good advice about which version/where to download/extra drivers for usb/etc from searching old posts.
Just gotta hold tight until cable turns up from the States.
And will def take you up on your offer m0rk, I see you based in N'ton as well?
