Desperate need of help!!!

Hi guys

Basically my car is f***ed..at times.

I will be driving along and everything is fine but then randomly I will get like a jerk and the ESP light will come on. I think it's esp, will have to double check this. First time it happened my pipe came off the standard dv as I forgot to cable tie. Put it back on and it was fine after. Then changed over to a 007p and it ran nicely with this. Then a few days later my exhaust flexi started blowing quite bad but car was still running fine.

Then it happened again about 2-3 times now. The car jerks a little and the ESP light comes on (sometimes the engine management light too) then will struggle to start. I scanned it and a few times it has brought up the speed sensor error. G20 I think? The camshaft retard setpoint or whatever it is also has come up once or twice.

Now the worst bit...

This has happened second time now..the other day I was driving along and luckily was driving quite slow and went to brake and there was nothing there what so ever, the brake pedal went straight to the floor. Manage to bring the car to a stop by lowering the gears and eventually using the handbrake. Immediately turned the car off and then noticed smoke coming from the engine bay, from the driver side near the brake fluid bit. But I couldn't actually see what was wrong. Had a look at everything and couldn't see anything wrong. Then once it stopped smoking I pressed the brake pedal a few times and it seemed normal again. Started the car and it worked fine.

Got home and scanned it and brought up an error under 'abs' bit. Can't remember what it was now. Reset it and all was fine but then again today it happened. No smoke this time though. Just a jerk esp light came on. Car wouldn't start and had no brakes. Scanned it straight away and it came up with an error about the brake sensor. (Abs sensor I think?) after a while I reset the codes and the car started and it runs ok.

Now the car is going in the garage to get a new downpipe fitted on Saturday but I don't believe that the fault codes are all linked to the blowing flexi or am I wrong?

It is a leon cupra r with a stage 1 remap, a forge 007p and the n249 valve has been bypassed. Other than that it is standard. Now when I bought it, it was already remapped by the previous owner and the valve was also bypassed. I'm thinking that it is a **** map and needs looking at but it still shouldn't be behaving the way it is should it? Especially the brakes. Also the bypass looks a little dodgy to me and I've read all the guides and everything but can't make sense of it as I think he's removed a few too many things.

Any help is much appreciated. Any heads up on what to check/replace.

I was thinking of getting a speed sensor and abs sensor tomorrow and changing that but not sure where they are located?

Someone please help! Thank you.

If anyone is local to me (West Yorkshire, Huddersfield) and can take a look it will be much appreciated.

Each wheel has a reluctor ring (like a disc with holes in, or a gear type on the rear) which works out how fast each wheel is spinning
If one of these is misreading it can cause the ABS to activate thinking its skidding.
The sensors are in the hub, held in by one bolt from the back
I'd check the hose going to the brake servo (at the back under charge pipe) is ok and isn't melted
I wouldn't expect the ABS fault to stop power unless the TCS is turned on and thinks your wheel spinning
The camshaft fault could be oil pressure related as this controlled by the VVT unit
How many miles and servicing has been done? Pick up replaced at any point?

Thanks for your reply.

As far as I'm aware it hasn't been replaced. Will check through paperwork tomorrow though. Mileage is just over 73k. Has been serviced regularly. Did the last one myself

This is my first car so I'm still learning about a lot of the stuff. Going to have a look at the sensors tomorrow. Are they easy enough to get to when the car is jacked up? Same with the hose going to the servo.

The servo hose is easy visible from up top
The sensors are accessed from the back but are a nightmare to get out of the hub and will probably require smashing out. Really need to remove the discs so you can get to them properly
Also check the wiring to each sensor as its common for these to get a bit damaged
Id start at the corner the fault was registered at and check it over
As for the cam fault, the cams are timed together by a chain and only exhaust cam is driven off the timing belt.
The VVT unit also is a tensioner on the chain linking the two and very pressure sensitive
Although the mileage isn't high the 1.8t engine is well known for getting a blocked pick up gauze in the sump causing low oil pressure/starvation and for the sake od a £10 sometimes worth replacing at the next oil change
