Demon Tweek Oil Temp Install

I know there are a lot of guides on here regarding the wiring/install of oil temperature gauges and I've read through most of them. I just had a few questions about installing the one I've just bought off Ebay from Demon Tweeks.

The back of the gauge appears to be similar to Craig LCR's - http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=223029. From what I can see my connections are the same - S goes to the sender, - goes to engine ground and + to ignition switch. I then have two wires for the display, black and red.

The below diagram is what was received in the box

The red wire is positive, so I guess this goes to the fat red wire on the light switch block? Where would the '+ ignition switch' wire for the sender go to? I also don't appear to have a switched live wire to control illumination with the headlights, is that missing? Would the black wire for negative at the top of the diagram go to brown in the switch block?

I'm basing the assumptions on what's in http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=223051 and http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=119724&highlight=wiring+guide

There were also four adaptors included and from what I've read I need the female 1/8NPT to male m10x1. I'm not sure if that's what one of these are. The sender seems to fit in all of them, but when I try and screw it in I get resistance about half way and don't want to force it any more. Am I better off just buying a new one? Not sure if the thread on the adaptors or sender are a bit dodgy.

Any help would be awesome!

screw the adapter into the top of the oil filter housing, put the sender into it, doesnt matter if it dont go all the way in just make sure its tight. Dont use ptfe tape to seal the two together, as your sender is a singal wire one so the sensor itself has to earth itself. I fitted my autogauge one last week but used an oil sandwich plate as I want to run a oil pressure gauge at some point aswell.

About a third of the way down.

Theres a switched live under the steering column if it helps, under the relays. I'd add a fuse to your wiring if it was me.

That's for the boost gauge, not oil temp.

I was more after where the specific wires I mentioned should go. I understand where the sender needs to be screwed in.

Don't suppose there's anyone in the Berkshire area that knows how to do this and fancies lending a hand?

join the black gauge wire (earth) to the brown wire on the light switch block
Join the red wire(switched live) together and then join it to the grey wire with blue tracer on on switch block. the other three are one for sender, mine is permanent live and then earth again.

follow this link for the wiring at the back of the light switch, should be easy to follow although its for boost gauge its the same principle. your top red and black wires are for the illumination.

Thanks Keith, I think that clears it up.

I imagine this might become clear when I pull the a pillar off and take a proper look, but where have you run the wires to get them from the back of the gauges to the switch block? I understand you need to remove the fuse board to get the switch block, so where do the wires go when you've connected them?

I can see the wires here seem to disappear behind the top of the dash.

Take off the lower dash under the steering few torx bolts by your knees and a couple by the fuse box, the whole thing lifts off and voila plenty of access to it all..

Hi Keith,

I know you can take the lower dash off for better access, but can you route the wires from there up to the top of the dash and connect them to the gauges? Also, can you get to the back of the switch block from under the dash? If not, I don't see how you get the wires from the switch block to the gauges when the fuse panel is back on.

With the panel off gives you access to switch block and you can feed wires up to top of dash quite easily

I was just having a look at a few bits in preparation for doing this. How the hell do you get to the oil filter housing to connect the sender? It's properly hidden and the inlet mani is right in the way...

I fitted a sandwich plate on mine between the filter and housing for ease of access

That would probably be a bit easier. Is there a particular one I would need to buy? Do you know anywhere that's good to get them from?

My car's due a service next month, so might see if Seat fancy fitting the sandwich plate for me .

Got my car back from Seat yesterday following a service, but apparently they had to remove the sandwich plate after fitting it due to oil leaking through two of the blanking plates/screws

I bought the same one in your link Keith. Have you had any issues with yours? Are you using the blanking screws provided?

No problems with mine, yes I'm using the supplied blanking bolts, but I did ptfe tape them before I fitted them in..
