I've turned on the function that allows all members to see deletion notices.

basically when you delete a post - it's still there, but it shows people that you have posted & the reason (if given) for the deletion

So if you could fill in the section when you delete something, that'd be ace

And it'll stop people emailling us asking where a post has gone.

Why change this then?

Thought it was a bit strange when I had deleted a couple of posts that were no longer relevant to the thread (hence easier for people to read less in the thread)

It's not going to stop people posting shite and then deleting it. However, people will now know how much crap they've actually posted. :p

hell
is there not a way of only applying it to posts dated after this thread?
I'm sure you have good reason to do this, but some threads just make people look bad without the option of reinstating the posts to show their side of the story.

Sorry - not possible, but many people do actually give reasons.

Having read the example thread given by Cupra R con, I guess people need to think carefully before deleting their own posts and double check that others haven't already quoted what they've said!

Sorry to bump up an old thread rather than start a new one :)

Can the thread deletion be switched off in certain forums?.
For example the classifieds section. Often pages look like minefields with real ads being mixed in with constant mod removals. The originator can be notified via pm why their thread was removed, is there any real reason to keep a ghost thread still in place with the deletion reason for all to see?. It makes scanning the classifieds more difficult and would be better if only real ads are left in place. It also seems to bump real threads further down the page so you get people bumping them up even more.

ie. there are 12 deletion notices alone on this page. Agreed they are all just and mods are doing a good job but does the thread and reason still need to remain?

Just an observation, feel free to delete :)

My opinion only.....

I think that in a lot of cases, viewers should see how much work is being made for mods by transgressing posters- especially so in the classifieds. Seeing deleted posts acts as an encouragement to get it right first time.

I do occasionally go through them purging the deleted ad's. As I'm sure m0rk does. But it's not something i can do every day, real life and a career gets in the way.

Cheers :), I know as Dave said it will discourage others from generating ads without the correct details but not everyone takes notice it seems. I seen one guy have at least 3 ads removed the other day
