Dealer quote for rear speakers in a Ibiza DAB

Hi,

I went to my local Seat dealers in North London today to get them to fix the electric door mirrors as they had stopped working. This was sorted out fairly quickly as the mechanic reset the motor for this although I still find the switch tricky to operate!

Anyway, while I was there I got a quote on the fitting of rear speakers in my Ibiza DAB (as most people here will know that this model does not have them fitted as standard!!)

The dealer said that including parts and labour it would be £456 !!! :wtf:

He said that this is because there would be 4 hours labour for the job and all the wiring has to be fit in. Also the fact it was a 3 door model also made it more difficult. I asked him why the rear speakers were not fitted as standard and he just shrugged his shoulders and said none of the DAB's have the extra speakers and pointed to a DAB in the showroom which only has 4 speakers.

The quote seems astronomical. It is so bizzare that the DAB's are the only new Ibiza's sold without rear speakers and this is supposed to be the ICE model!

I might get another quote for speakers elsewhere.

i have just fitted rear speakers to my wifes dab and i can confirm it is not a 5min job, hers is a 5 door which i would say is harder to fit than than a 3 door, but i would say 4 hours plus parts is fair. If you get it done check all your trim after, as all plastics that have to be removed are damaged very easily. good luck, and buy aftermarket speakers much better quality than the seat ones.
ps i am not saying stealer price is ok just saying 4 hours is about right i would say 4 hours @ £30 a hour + £75 parts sounds about right.

Are these the same standard rear speakers found in other Ibizas? If so they are pap, I can't say they are really worth the cost.

you could easily do it yourself in an afternoon even if you had to run cables solder and end them for a proper factory fit yourself.

last car i had done at an ICE fitter cost £50 labour and that was wires for rears too

I believe the quote was for the standard Ibiza speakers.

I think I purchased my Ibiza DAB after the cut off date before which some people got rear speakers for free.

I did also try Halfords for a quote. The main person who does the estimates for speakers was not there but they did say that if the wires for the rear speakers are not in the car already the job may take some hours to complete and be expensive.

Unless I can find a much cheaper solution I might just leave it for now!

That's a really kind offer!

I'll bear it in mind if I don't find anything soon.

You're lucky being off work this week! I've had to go back to work today and I'm working tomorrow!

Dont do it. Four Hours labour work. Year right.

I did a similar job. Fitted 6x9s in my rear, which meant I had to remove the cables from the side speakers in the rear. Ok, so you have to remove the seats and then the panel. I didnt know what I was doing but that took the best part of 15 mins per panel.

Ok, running speaker cables from the front to the rear might be trickier, but it is no way a 4 hours job!

Is it difficult to get the back panel out (where the back speakers are)? Looks a bit fiddly and a possibility a high risk of damaging it.

bit fiddly when you first do it, best to remove seats as to be able to get to it properly, there are two big round black plastic screws and the rest is plastic popers.

When I removed my panel I found it best to start at the front edge at the door opening and gradually work back. The trim clips are in two parts, one of which should stay in the metal panels but you will probably pull some of the clips completely out when you remove them. You will have to separate them and replace the 'fixed' part before you put the panel back.

Before I replaced the panel on mine I put little pieces of masking tape on the facing side to indicate where each clip was. The clips need quite a good shove to lock back in place and the tape shows where to press most effectively.

does the DAB radio have 6 outputs?

I think that might have been the reason for only fitting 4?

I have a Blaupunkt Woodstock 54 in my Ibiza which only has four outputs but the rear. The reason for this i was told is due to the front set of tweeters (high ones in the top of the doors) running of the same loop as the other front ones but through a crossover.

I may well be wrong but twas what i was informed
