De-Wipered Rear

i got a couple from halfords, think they were 25mm rubber gromits.

its easy, remove the plastic tray in the boot, and basically just gradually remove the pump, cable tie the cables that come through the car

Put a screw in the rubber cable where the water would come out.
Jobs a good 'un

Cheers.

Has anyone got any pics of thier car before and after the de-wipering? Im abit worried it might not look right. I think the black bung may stand out seen as though my car is red!

Personally I think it looks a bit gash with the rubber bung in!

If the hole was on the window (like the mk3) then fair enough but as it's on the body there's only one way and thats to get it smoothed!

The rubber bung reminds me of a lower spec models, where they don't even have a rear wiper!

i tried painting the grommet (even though my cars black) was perfect until i had to squeeze it into the hole ...and the paint came off lol. jus got another standard gromment, looks great, need some rain repelent on the window though. yeh smoothing is prob the better solution but £££ compared to £1 for a bung ...hmm. halfords grommets stick out so much anyone know of a flatter one?

Mckellar's photo above does not do it any justice, it makes it look as though it stands out and could be seen from a mile off even though its black!!

Believe me, its hardly noticeable. When in Halfords (not rome ) check through the packets on the shelf. I originally bought some for my polo which were quite low and flat, I went back up, purchased some more and the one needed was about half a centimetre thick. It looked wank!

I went back up and bought another packet and luckily ended up with another thin one.

I am so glad I've done it, makes the back look much much smarter. Will get some photo's of the back of mine up later.

The other thing was... smoothing the rear wiper, unless you remove the rear window you will end up with a **** job. The paint can only be blown up so far and when masked off will leave a sharp line..... ;)

It looks fine.

My bung does stick out a little bit the SCN sticker that is now at the bottom of the glass takes your eye away from it.

Tidy eh!

You'll find the bungs with the random little packets of fuses etc that halfrauds do. Took me bloody ages to find them!

I didn't want to ask the staff, they looked like they had about 1 brain between the lot of them. I'm not talking about a normal brain either.. I'm talking Andy from Little Britain brain here.. "Whasa bung?"

Im very impressed with yours ted. Really does make a difference. I reckon your average joe wouldn't even notice the bung.

And yes roelich, we shall do it on yours first :)

Not much to mess up! A few bolts and clips and all is good. Just make sure you seal off that water hose good and proper and test it too.

People have commented saying it was a nice factory touch.. Ha, didn't notice the bung then!

if u can find a flat plastic (hard) grommet then its all cool, u can paint it. but the ones in halfords stick out and are made of soft rubber so if u paint it ...when u try to put it in it just gets squashed and paint looks v odd.

looking nice by the way.
