Dash warning light - What is it?

My Cupra 280 has developed some kind of fault.

An inspection of the SEAT manual tells me that it's "A fault in the emissions control system".

Here it is (links to photos below the images if they don't load for you):

The light stays on, lit up (not flashing), when I turn the key and it stays that way with the engine running. It doesn't go off, ever.

It's the first warning light I've had on the car so it came as a surprise.

Usually it's just a faulty sensor?

Furthermore, and perhaps more seriously (although somebody might be able to clarify), the EPC light stays on when I insert the key into the ignition and turn it - but it goes off once I start the engine. Here's a photo of that:

So just to clarify with that one - EPC light illuminates when key inserted, but goes off when engine started.

Is that normal?

Any help appreciated. I'm going on a 60-mile drive tomorrow, so I really hope it isn't too serious....

Here's a photo from the manual:

Obviously I'll take the car in for a diagnosis this weekend.

EPC light and EMl light should go off when engine is started.

Your photos from photobucket don't work but when I had EML light and EPC my car needed a new turbo actuator.

If you have a search it's a fairly common problem in the MK3 Leon.

Updated with links to photos.

I need to confirm again:

The EPC light goes out when I start the engine. There isn't an issue there as far as I know.

It's the emissions light that's thrown me.
