hi guys have a 2001 tdi toledo which has caused me numerous problems from the start...... it might sound weird....... but as long as theyre cheap fixes i actually enjoy fixing them!! plus im addicted to the 60mpg im getting versus the 25 i was getting with my volvo t5.! and the parts are easier to come by and loads in scrappers too!!

ok, my problem....

firstly abs light.... kept coming on when i start, not always, just sometimes, and the odd time at slow stopping i would have felt a crunch under the brake pedal and have to stand very hard to totally pull up.

vagcom told me it most likely was wire in the front drivers wheel or possibly sensor, on looking at wire it looked ok..... all connections clean etc so i got a guy down road to replace sensor. light still coming on.

as it was coming up to mot he said, "look i can hook up a wee timer to the bulb that'l light it up and out again for the mot man, but your problem will still be there" that was 3 weeks ago.............any ideas?

also now a light has come up on my dash as if i'm driving with hand brake on and 3 verfy loud beeps when i start up. again, this isnt every time, about 7/10 times. from lookin in manual it says brake fluid level or something, but i checked and its spot on?

i dont know if these are connected, i dont think so but any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Id go over your brakes with a fine toothcomb, they might need bleeding, or a sensor somewhere could be throwing it out. That crunch makes me think the ABS is kicking in as thats what mine usually feels like

That sounds like an ABS system fault - the most vulnerable component is the wheel speed sensor (one on each wheel) and the sensor ring on the hub. Check sensor wiring and check the rings for damage.

This light can apparantly also come up if the supply voltage is less than 10 Volts, so check your battery as well.

Brake fluid too low. Brake fluid level sensor is in the cap of the reservoir. Check that the sensor isn't stuck (it's a plastic ball in a cage as far as I recall) and that the electrical connector and wiring at the cap are ok.

guys thanks a million for replyin! was startin to get a complex there! ;)

i replaced the sensor in the front drivers wheel, thats where vagcom said there was an issue

havnt checked the sensor ring- how do i do that?

as for the brake fluid- i guessed that- but level is spot on and the ball seems to be moving ok in the chamber, wiring etc seems ok too. i filled more fluid in to be on safe side but still beeps like fu.. drivin me mad.

brought it to a guy down the road with a macscan and he says it is a dash fault will need new dash and tuned in too- but im startin to think this guys is a bit of a scammer- ive heard other reports, but hes the only one around who will even plug anythin in to the comp port to find out!

please............any more ideas??:help:
