:censored:

Well its finally happened to me, leaving the girlfriends fathers yesterday with her nan in the car, got about 30 yards down the road and slowed for the juction, dipped the clutch only to feel something snap and the clutch pedal to hit the floor

Recovered the car back to my house today after alot of messing about yesterday to transport everyone to their revelant places (all my mates drive 2 seater cars which didnt help!)

So shes sat outside my house now, Im reasonably confident i could remove the pedal box if it is that thats broken and then give it to one of the boys to weld up for me if it is that - can anyone give me some pointers on exactly whats required and how difficult it is etc

Im pretty sure i saw a white clip when i heard the snapping, does anyone know what this might of done etc?

It hapened to my mk2 not so long ago. I was shocked at the price to get it re-welded along with new clutch cable.

happened to my cupra a few months ago, lucky me my mate works in a garage and welded it for £15 but he did say that it was a real pain in the arse to do!

u sure its the actual pedal box, against the box that the little white clip sits in? i had the same twice and didnt use the dealer any of the times,

welded it up with a mate, its fine. clips are 23p each from IMG Warrington if its any help.

The stealer also said my pedal box is cracked, what a load of shite, they couldnt even find a crack when i queried and neither can i a year down the line!

just checked it this morning, its the weld on the top of the box that contains the little white clip that pushes the rod into the clutch master cylinder, its flung open like a door hinge where the rod has pushed through the welds, Ive found the little white clip, we attempted to remove the whole pedal assembly but it got too deep for our technical knowledge to be honest, I couldnt see how to get the whole lot out arround the steering column :(

My mate is a ex welder and hes advised against welding it in the car as it'll do alot of spark damage...any suggestions or exploded diagrams for the pedal assembly so i can see exactly what i need to remove?

yep, steering column needs to come out, all of the pedals, clutch master cylinder needs outing, its quite a big job. i believe you also have to do this if you want to just pull the clutch pedal off. (thats where the broken part is on yours)

I would get it welded in place

Is this a fairly common fault and is it in anyway related mileage or how the car's driven?

Just wondering as I'm looking to buy a Cupra ATM and was interested if there were signs of this happening or it just occurred randomly.

Cheers

to be honest, mine had 21k on when it went, i've had it twice, im not heavy on the clutch, it depends on how good the original weld is on the pedal, some are good some are bad.

I think the above picture is for the leon

isnt it just possible to slide the clutch pedal out though by removing clip no. 15 in the diagram then welding it outside of the car and then reinstalling it? I dont mind having it welded in the car though if i have 2

ok heres another important question, my best mate is a ex welder and is more than happy to weld it in the car for me however i think we've thought of a problem. The bar that is connected to the clutch master cylinder is already passing through the box that has split open even when the pedal is fully up in the "unoperated" position so how do we get the white plastic clip back in the box once the box is welded closed again as the bar is blockin its access

do we have to slacken off the clutch master cylinder or something and then push the whole assembly further into the engine bay through the bulkhead to allow us to insert the plastic clip in there?

thanks for the guide daz, so in no way does the brake pedal need to come out then? all we need to do is release the clip at the end of the assembly and then move the assoicated dbw bits and peices for the accelerator pedal out the way yes?

i was told you cant get the clutch pedal off without removing the whole pedal box, this was from the forums, so i welded in place. The Circlip on the end of the bar, doesnt do much use, you cant get the pedal off even if you tried, you have to take clutch master cylinder out, or at least release the fluid so you can push the rod back, good luck pushing it by hand :)
