Was driving back from my girlfriends on Thursday night, just approaching the "Arches" at Castlecary on the A80 when "BANG"....
I managed to hit a pothole... It was so bad that i have 2 airbag lights showing now, the one on the main instruments panel is on permanent. The other "AIRBAG OFF" light next to the hazard switch is flashing.....
Does anybody know if its just a case of resetting the airbags or would i need a new ECU switch/ sensor etc??

Cheers Davie

That doesn't sound good!!!

Not sure if you'll need your ECU reseting or even the sensors replaced !

You might want to get your suspension and tracking checking out just in case!!

How does it drive?

I can remember driving over a pothole in my first car (fiesta Si) and I bent a wishbone + the tracking was well out! :(

I'd agree you should probabaly get the car checked over, and if damaged make a claim..

I managed to buckle a wheel and damage the tyre side wall on a previous car hitting an 6 in deep pot hole.

Car seems to drive ok, doesn't pull to left or right.
Altho since changing my wheels i've got a steering shudder when i hit bout 60-65mph, got the balancing checked yesterday. I also had a look but couldn't see any obvious damage after hittin the pothole..

About 3 months ago my car failed an MOT with a split CV joint gaiter which i'm sure was caused by driving over a disused rail line which had sunk to make a steep ridge accoss the road - it made a hell of a bang and it had only been serviced a week before that. Do you think i could claim any of that back or is it too late by now?

Some of the roads round here are shocking...

i had the two airbag lights on in my LC, took it the main dealer and they reset it, they said the fault was the airbag ignitor which would cost arond 700quid to fix. They did a fault code clear and said if the lights come back on then bring it back to them and they'd see if it was the same fault then take a new course of action, think my airbag switch is knackered though as it turns too far lol. Get it checked out probably find a fault code clear would sort it out, the ecu logs the faults then when it gets too many on one thing it puts the light up on the dash. Get that done first then fingers crossed it should get rid of the lights.

Surrey darling...
Get back to where it happened and grab some pics of the hole before the coucil fill it in! You won't have a chance in hell of claiming if it's already done...

I had the same problem in my old 306. Just imported some Italian wheels and the day after I bent one (big time) So I popped down the road where I hit the pothole. Took some pics and after asking for road reports, and really giving the council some kicking they paid up for new wheel, tyre etc etc. (took about 6 months)

Always take pics and ask for road reports. I think most roads have to be reported on every 6 months but its worth asking for the last couple of years.

what about your wheels?
have you had them checked to see if buckled or warped and your tracking..
definately claim against your local council/ highway agency over this as they have a fund set aside for things like these from potholes and speed humps.

good luck

I won't be able to get any pics of the pothole cos it is on a dual carriageway, don't fancy playin chicken with the traffic!

I met up with one of my mates who has "vag-com" and he reset the fault.....

Everything was fine until I was driving to the gym this morn and came across roadworks, the workmen had dug up sections of the road. I was doing no more than 15-20mph when I hit a raised part of the road which put the airbag lights on again......

Am starting to think that these airbag sensors are just way to sensitive, no bags have detonated, just warning lights on the dash.....

I wrecked my TSW's on my Golf some years ago. Popped front tyre, dinted both front and back allows quite badly and sent tracking well out. Took pics and council had to cough up. We pay enough road tax there should be no potholes, you see some holes and they are there for weeks with a bit of yellow spray round them. If only the bloke who marked it would have brought some tarmac instead of a spray can.
