Ive just found a leon cupra 72k on clock on 2002 facelift model black magic with front end smash! CAT C i was wondering what problems i may have with this!!!
I know how longs a piece of string but this is what it needs

Wing
bonnet
windscreen (insurance)
cross member
bumper
front panel
head light
radiator
front chassis arm sligthly bent not major £300ish to do apparntly!

The cars got full leathers and very tidy no deployed air bags ! i estimate £1000-£1500 work inc paint etc...
The cars @ £3000

My concerns are what will my insurance company think?

What do i have to do to gain the paper work! is it as easy as taking it to dvla and they sign it as ok?? (like the breakers say?)

What about reselling the car later on will it lose a lot of value or shold i wait for a none damaged?

Any body had any jig work done on theres and had good/bad results??? does it effect the car generally weaken it or other???

Thinking £4500 for a 02 leon seems alright when all works done!

what do you guys think?

thanks

Cat C I think needs a proper inspection ( like a very big MOT ) before you can put it on the road IIRC. And I think it'll be on a Q plate which would mean very difficult to sell.

A breaker will always say the work isn't major, you need to know what your doing buying a Cat C.

What you may need to get is a VIC inspection, which confirms that the vehicle has not been rung, id you look on the vosa website it will tell you all. A cat C car will never go on a Q plate, i keeps its current number.

Not all cat C's have to have a VIC, if you ring the DVLA, give them the reg and ask then if it has a vic marker they will tell you. If you have to have a VIC test your log book comes back with, this vehicle has been heavily damaged and repaired written on it, which is great if you car hasn't been heavily damaged!!!!

I have just repaired a heavily damaged leon, it has all been done right and you would not be able to tell. Over the years i have repaired lots of cars, if done right yuo cant tell and they are 100% safe!

Found this mate, hope it helps:

'Category C - Repairable salvage. Usually applies to vehicles with significant (structural) damage, where cost of repairs exceeds book value. Can be sold complete to Trade or Public. Recorded as "Category C" at DVLA. Category C vehicles' V5 documents are returned to DVLA. You re-apply, to DVLA or at your local VRO, for registration on the original identity once you have fixed it up, MOTed it and want to Tax it. Re-registration removes the Category C classification, but evidence it was at one time Category C remains on the vehicle's record at DVLA (and HPI and AA and the others).

Cars (and vans...) sold for repair but must now have VIC inspection before returning to the road.

VIC inspection - Straight from VOSA's web site "[The VIC] will involve comparing the vehicle presented against information held by DVLA, such as the vehicle identification number, make, model, colour and engine number. The VIC will also compare the record of previous accident damage with evidence of damage repair as well as checking other components to confirm the age and identity of the vehicle." '

I read somewhere that a Cat D or C is worth 20% less
So that will effect re sale value.
It's a sought after car though so i should think you could sell it easy if its 20% cheaper than the rest. (as long as you dont flog it straight away)

Personally i wouldn't touch it, but thats just me, it took me 3 months to find my LCR as i had a strict criteria .... 1 old man owner from new, never driven etc....
