CV Boot - Leaking?

Not long had my Facelift Cupra. Just went to get some new Eagle F1's fitted today and the tyre fitter said the CV Boot was leaking grease. He said it wasn't split, but it appeared to be leaking at one end.

He wiped his fingers over the end and sure enough, there was a small amount of grease, but certainly not loads.

Now, is this normal (considering how little there was), or should it not be losing any?

Car is just out of warranty, 31600 on the clock.

Any idea's on cost to have this fixed if it needs it?

Cheers fella's!

get a new cable tie around it, will cost £0 to fix if you do it yourself :)

also if its not made much of a mess of your wheel I wouldn't worry about needing new grease either, if you think its lost ome just bung in some and then seal it with the cable tie

Had mine changed recently because it had split (60k miles). Cost me an hour's labour plus a few quid for the boot itself. The garage said it was the first one they had seen go on a Leon, but it has happened to a few people on here.

If you don't fix it, and grit gets in then before long you'll need a new driveshaft :(

So I checked it out today. Yep, there was a little grease on surrounding components. Wiped it all off.

Checked boot, seems fine. No splits, clips are in place and no grease (or VERY little) near them.

As you know, very little grease can make a lot of mess, so my cloths were fairly dirty, but I wouldn't say it was a massive amount. Clips were deffo ok.

Checked other side, bone dry! That makes me worry more.

Sigh, guess it's got to go in.....

Right.....it's been into my local garage and they say it's not leaking, split or needs new clips.

He agree's, there is some grease around lower components, but says it's not coming from the seals. This is what I thought when I checked it yesterday (albeit in the rain, laying on the floor). I wiped as much grease off components as I could, the boot seemed ok, not covered in grease.

I guess I will keep checking it once a week and see if we get any more grease.

I bought the car in August and the warranty ran out in October. I got a free RAC warranty for one year. The car had 26,500 miles on it and was serviced when I picked it up. I'm thinking while it was in for service and still under warranty, they changed the boot. Either that, or the previous owner had it done. Maybe that explains the grease?

Had my 03 Cupra R in the other day for a service/inspection and both of my boots are split!

Luckily I'm still under warenty so I'll be getting them done soon. Bit of a worry though.
