I ain't telling you thief!
Late on Sunday night crawling over a speed bump driving out from where the missus lives my exhaust tone changed from barely audible to dragster like.

Upon jumping out of the car to investigate what happend I find my backbox dangling 1" lower. Clean snap at the inlet pipe weld, corroded through. Well it's only managed 48k miles but I suppose it's getting on 7 years old in summer.

I've been meaning to put a CAT back system on the car but haven't got around to it, so destiny made the decision for me. I popped along to Mr. Tyre on Aylestone Rd. in Leicester - the local PowerFlow distributor just down the road from my workplace. Considered BlueFlame but they are supposed to be on the loud side, still I couldn't find a local place so thought to give PowerFlow a go.

I've had the centre box removed and 2.5" pipe run from the CAT to a new backbox with a 6"x4" oval tip. It fills the cut out in the rear bumper nicely and looks good I think. I've had one of the bigger size backbox put on so that it's not too loud. It's still a bit louder than I wanted but I'm getting used to it. You can tune this to a degree as they have a range of sizes.

From the outside it's actually not too bad but when in the car the body acts like a big resonance box and sounds louder. Nice deep note and it pops and crackles a little when you lift off. It's very quiet on the motorway at constant speed but goes very mental when you boot it or when you lift off (curiously, to do with rate of change of flow).

I'll take some pics at the weekend, car's filfthy at the mo though. Needs detailing properly as I haven't washed it in a few weeks. I recorded a sound clip but my digital camera's mic hasn't done a great job. Will try again.

Feedback regarding Mr. Tyre in Leicester: Well I had to go back to get it readjusted as I wasn't happy with how the box sat with respect to the bumper and I had a rattle in the centre section. Took it back following day and they sorted me out straight away in 30mins. Good service, try to get bearded James to do yours, top chap. Got mine installed in 2hours first time, the next day from my first query and all for £320 (2.5" SS pipe and backbox with tip fitted).

It will have made next to no difference to the power, but the reduced backpressure does make the engine pickup more lively. Definately notice it. Happy with it, thumbs up.

No center silencer will be louder than blueflame I would imagine as it has one. My blueflame is not loud at all as exhausts go so I dont know why others are.

Just what I'd read, it may not be the norm chap. I feel a sound survey coming along... :p

I went for no mid box on purpose, it's easier to add it on than take it off. I was after minimum disruption, though I know the downpipe is the driver.

I was toying with the idea of getting them to put a centre box in but I might hold off for a while and go back if I don't stay happy with it.

I had a bespoke TB Blueflame system fitted last week with a centre box put in and it's very quiet at normal speeds just like the Milltek and the quality looks good.

As most people only avoid Blueflame for the noise, I'd recommend more people go down this route tbh

If I add a centre box is it going to have any significant effect? I wouldn't think so as the downpipe is the restriction driving the system, what do you think?

I am toying with the idea of putting it on, maybe in a few weeks if the noise drains me. It is very quiet on the motorway though.

On the plus side it stops me from booting it around to not get the attention! :p

I'd be surprised if my centre box made any noticeable difference/detriment in performance but all depends on the size and baffles that different manufacturers use I guess
