Been offered a mk3 cupra with no ECU for a really good price. Thinking about getting it as i may be able to source a remapped ecu.

Do you guys think this isa good idea or could a lot of problems erupt?

Thecupra has no ecu because it was damaged with water.

you can pick a ecu up from £200ish sometimes cheaper then get someone pair it with the car....

Offered it for a grand. It has only done 40, 000 miles and is in good nick.

Is it easy enough to take myecu out and put it in the oter one to try it?

For a grand I'd take it... even as a total non runner it'd have to be utterly shagged.

infact, if you pass on it - give me the details

Depends if it was just water in the ecu or the whole car underwater like flood damage. If it was just the ecu then for a £1k its worth it. If it was something like flood damage then I would give it a miss.

Hell I'd take an oppertunity like that if the rest looked alright.
as said, parts alone will give you break even point if its a no runner in the end...

simple, plug and play. but it needs to be the correct ecu for the car... check the engine codes are the same firstly. and then its as simple as getting under the scuttle panel and removing two connectors, and then unplugging the ecu from its holder.

make sure that the ecu is okay to go in the other cupra first though! either check with someone on here by getting the engine code, or give SEAT a ring

can be done using VAG-COM quite easily apparently. if its only need to see if that car starts, then isn't that enough? but if not, you just need someone in the area who knows VAG-COM. DPJ said it only takes a matter of 10-15 minutes to do

ECU will not plug and play. It will need coding to the car with Vag Com. Like I said if just the ecu got wet it sounds like a bargain but if the car was water damaged flood style then I would give it a wide berth.

hell for that price, you could buy a laptop, a lead and a copy of vagcom to install your ecu to test it and providing it worked you could make alot of money

i'd do it

I can smell a fooked engine from water ingestion here. why would you sell it for a 1/4 of it's worth without an ECU? even the most lazy man/woman would replace the ECU.
Then again you have to speculate to accumulate.
I'll be interested to see how this one goes.
