Hey Lads,

Need a bit of help, got a problem with my Cupra TDI its simply not starting. The lights work, radio works but it just won't start. I have tried jumping it and i have charged the battery for nearlt 24 hours as well and it still wont. There is nothing there at al when i turn the key!

I think it could be a start motor issue but i don't know where it is? Any ideas?

Any help or suggestions are welcomed!!

Thanks
Dave

Hi VAG Dave,

Easiest to check first is that all earths are connected properly. Check all the earth leads and ensure good contact. I am not familiar enough with the leon yet but most VAGs have a earth connected to gearbox that can give bother. That might be a good place to start. Check connection and clean it for good measure.

If not then might be starter:

Sometimes a gentle tap on the side of the motor can free things up enough for it to start.

Did you say you have already tried to bump start it? If so did you heat the plugs before dropping the clutch? If not try that. At least it will get it going for you to take it to a mechanic.

I didn't try bumping it, i tried to jump start it with leads before i charged the battery up. Where i live is all flat . . . think i might have to get the boys round to give me a bit of a push to see if i can jump start it that way!!

Get a volt meter on the battery - once they gone even charging won't work. Things like the radio still work cause thier pull on the battery is minor.

If you've got another car try using that battery - it's a cost free way of testing if it's the battery.

Surely a jump would still work though even if the battery was dead?
