Cupra tdi loosing power.

Hello there,

This my first post since joining Seatcupra.net.

I brought a second hand Leon Cupra TDI 04, it had just over 97,000 on the clock. It had a full service history with it. After a week or so it developed loss of power. While accelerating in first, second or third from about 2200-2500 upwards. The car will judder and act like the turbo is cutting out then back in.

I have a trail copy of vag com and got the follow error:
17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation
P1557 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
I have searched some of the forums, and could be the turbo vanes sticking. I have checked the intercooler pipes and found a trail of oil coming down from the turbo to the intercooler through the intercooler and up to the Egr valve. I clean the Egr valve while i was at it didn't seem to bad, just abit of carbon build up.

I installed a boost gauge yesterday. Taking the feed from the plastic intercooler pipe before egr, like i have seen on some guides for tdi's. When taking her out for a spin the gauge was reading 30 plus psi. I'm sure this this reading is too high.

Any info and help on this would be greatful.

What would you say about the trail of oil from the turbo down to the intercooler and up to the egr valve.

How difficult is it to take the turbo off. Would i just have to buy a new exhaust gasket and thats it. Are there any seals on the turbo? and what would you recommend clean it with?

Thanks

Oil in that area isnt uncommon, its due to the CCV system venting oily air back into the intake system. You can take it all apart and clean up, then by pass the CCV if you want. Tie it in with a EGR removal to help reduce the gunge in the pipes.

Its just a few bolts to take the turbo off. Theres plenty of info about this in the TDI section and on TDIclub.com have a browse back through.
