Cupra TDI - how many miles to run in?

I've just bought a new TDI 160 and have read about giving the engine death from day one, but what I want to know is do they become significantly faster with a few miles on them? At the moment its not really boosting until 2k rpm and has only done 300 miles. Will it be much different at 1k miles?

I'm currently getting around 35mpg - will this drastically alter too? Only managed 41mpg down the motorway at 70mph for two hours (although I did vary the load quite a lot with a few 60 - 90 bursts)

I'm going to get a remap, but don't know wether to wait until the engine has done a few more miles...

Any advice? How hard would you thrash it when warm? I've been taking it to about 4k rpm, as I feel revving it all the way to the governor a tad excessive.

drive it below 2500 for first 500 miles then drive it how you like,

aslo while warnming the engine drive changing at 2000rpm for first few miles and then change at 2500-3000 normal drivng booting it when you want :)

just let engine oil heat up before going over 2100rpm.

also keep checking engine oil, and fuel consumson will get better my car transform after 20,000 miles :) roughly 48mpg how i drive mostly 42mpg. but have had high 50's out of it :)

i wopuld wait till 3,000 miles for remap.

the turbo kicks in at 1900revs mate..

imo i don't believe in the "drive it like you stole it" attitude, yeah give it abit of stick here and there, just loosen it up, the car will get faster/ more responsive as you pile on the miles...

id wait till 2k/3k miles to get it remapped,

just my 2p's worth tho

thats why i like having the oil temp gauge and battery in my 53 plate tdi cause once that oil needle starts to move up slightly thats when i can boot it

Can you tell from the heater? You could tell when the oil was up to temp in my Impreza because the heater would suddenly get a lot hotter - no good in this weather

Warwickshire once.
I always wait until the temp guage reaches 90 before giving it any, as this appears to be the engines normal running temp.

I drove like a granny for the first 1000 and it's now on 25K and going great.

Hi, I have a cupra160 as well and its done 11000 miles now runs superb, plenty of 60-65mpg runs on the motorway cruising at about 60ish. Even now would only boot it after its warmed up (90oc) . Would say the turbo comes in a bit later than 1900 prob around 2500 well certainly in mine anyway. Im gettin mine remapped as well but SEAT said the car will be fully run in between 30-70 thousand miles ! depending on the individual car. I would prob be 50 by then so ill more than likely wait till about 15-20 thousand before I get mine done.
