Hi, where do you guys recommend getting a new bonnet and a front bumper from? After an incident with a car i was following crashing into the back of a van that parked in the middle of the road around a blind corner i was left a little short of braking distance! I now have a split in my bumper and the front of the bonnet is bent slightly. Both are not worth repairing IMO and its far easier for me to just buy them and replace them without the insurance company being involved as my premimums are high enough already. Local SEAT garage quoted £275 for a bumper and about £150 for a bonnet.

Been offered a fiberglass bumper for £140 but it will just crack and shatter if it grazes on the road like they all do!

And the cheapest CF bonnet i have found that is and good is £750 so that is not an option!

Ringing vwspares in a min if they don't reply to my email, they claim to have a hefty discount on all SEAT parts.

Any thoughts on where else to check?

I think motorsport world do a sporty leon bumper, at least then you are upgrading, cost some major ££ tho
Yeah, its £289.99 but i don't really like the look compared to the standard LCR one. Nope, thats the price just as it comes from the factory moulding...:wtf:

i've never seen an aftermarket front bumper that's an 'upgrade' from the OE lcr one. It's the best looking (IMO) and definately best quality one available. Also worth checking if any quotes for the front bumper include any grills, clips and brackets you'll need - these can get expensive ~£280 is the cost of the bumper skin alone.

How can you be sure you only need a bumper and bonnet? The design of the slam-panel etc will send the force of a front impact down the side of the car... Have you checked panel fit elsewhere?

If you haven't already, i'd get the damage asessed proffesionaly. Poor repair now could leave the car weakened in the event of a future, more serious collision.

The rest of the car is fine, it was a VERY slow impact as i was hard on the brakes and needed only another 1 or 2 foot to stop, the brake pads have been in there (genuine Brembro replacements) for about 50 miles and i had not used them so they were not worn in propperly and i had only been half a mile and not used them once in over 30 hours so they did not pull up propperly as they were cold and damp. It was unfortunate that he hit the van when stationary because had it not stopped him so quickly i and my car would have been fine. Nothing but the front of the bumper and the tip of the bonnet is effected, the bonnet catch is slightly out if shape but the slam pannel, cross member and chassis legs are undamaged. The other car was wedged under the back of the van so his rear bumper was up in the air, hence the damage being so high and isolated on my car, infact there is more damage to the bonnet than the bumper but the CF splitter i tried split the bumper from the off side centre vertical fixing peg across to the off-side fog lamp grill recess so i might as well replace it whilst i'm at it. All but one of the policeman at the investigation agreed that it was a rediculous place to be stopped working in the road and it was a blind corner on an early damp morning, with high hedges, no signs saying men at work, no traffic calming, not flashign lights and none of the workers warning traffic of their presence. And now i have been informed the nice officer incharge of the investigation has decided to give me 5 points on an otherwise clean license and a hefty fine of about £400 and it appers its for no other resons than i had a nice car because he claims that with brakes like mine i should have stopped were i not going too fast so there for i was driving dangerously and added "i hope this teaches you a lesson at your age". Next thing you know i will get a driving :ban:

p.s the copper is obviously right. if you were going the correct speed, you probably would have stopped?!

Not what he wanted to hear.............. but you're right.

Lanes with blind corners and high hedges are dangerous places, if the hedges hid a van, then it could have been worse, it could have been a cyclist......

Well neither of us were speeding, infact i was well under and i knew the car was capable in stopping in the distance i could see, but it just did not grip the ground like i know it can, their goodyear F1s up front and they did not slip, simply the brakes did not bite the way they normally do, i've been driving really sensibly recently instead of being a lunatic and getting 40mpg and this happens. I have a very stong belief that the brakes did not grip, i know its stupid to say it but you get a good feeling for a car and know its ability, even at low speeds after a while and it simply did not feel right. It had been raining and i know the disks do rust over night and having stood since thursday they could easilly have been a bit rusty and as that was the first time i used them (don't even have to brake at the end of my drive) maby they didn't work propperly. There are any number of excuses i can come up with but they aren't gonna do any good now. It all feels a bit stupid that after going from 14mpg to 40, genuinly trying to drive better and not speeding i do this. Really kicking myself now for even getting out of bed saturday. :( All i wanted to do was go watch the WTCC cars at Brands..

Still as most people say it could have been worse... But for all of my theorys none of it will stand up in court in a few months and at the end of the day i'm still screwed...
