lol... ok I clicked the button somehow wayyy too early! heres the rest...

Firstly ...Its not boosting at all... been told turbo shaft has snapped
Its smoking blue smoke from exhaust
After ten mins oil light beeps and comes on.

Engine ticks over fine and it drives ok ...obviously with no power but drives....
Is the oil light coming on normal for a buggered turbo, or am I looking at another problem, oil pump??

Cheers, new to turbos so not clued up just yet, quick learner tho ;)

jeez dude, where do I start

If I were you I would get it to a decent VAG garage asap to get some proper diagnosis on it?

if the oil light keeps coming on, then clearly its very low on oil, probably due to the blue smoke bellowing out, its obviously leaking from somewhere, hence the loss of oil and oil light

if its not boosting and you have blue smoke then yes I would at best say the turbo has gone bang, probably oil pissing out the oil seals and god knows where else

have you looked around the turbo to see if there are traces of oil, or where you park it at night, see where the oil is leaking from onto the floor?

also how can you say the car drives fine.....the car is meant to have a turbo, so you are saying a turbo aspirated car with a knackered turbo drives fine?

how did you diagnose the turbo shaft has snapped? unless you take the turbo off the car or have x-ray vision then you wont know what is wrong with the turbo unit

I wish you the best of luck, but if you knew it had issues, why did you buy it?

I got it cheap of coarse :)) and its gonna be a little project car mi think. When I say it drives fine I mean its not clattering and clonking all over the shop. No leaks from or around the turbo and plenty of oil in the engine, can only think its just the turbo. No smoke comes from oil cap on top of engine when removed (whilst running) and with it starting very well (compression) I am ruling out for now piston rings - also water looks fine.
Just didn't think oil light would come on if just the turbo blown, as thought oil would still be circulating and pressure in main system, or is there an oil pressure sensor on or near the turbo?

I would advise still going to a garage or at the very least, running VAG com on the car for error codes etc

Think I have VAG com somewhere on a disc.... got other code reading software too, will give it a blast, suppose it won't hurt ;) Will still give it a compo test etc... gonna take TIP off this wkend and check the shaft on turbo with a wiggle... will prob end out with whole turbo on floor knowing me!

oil warning light came on with a single beep on mine a couple days ago. checked the level and it was below minimum so topped up with two litres which took it back up. car drives fine but the light still comes on when starting the car. does it need resetting? checked the codes with vag-com and just had battery disconnected and immobiliser logged (was playing with pairing keys) nothing to do with oil warning
