Hey guys, kinda fancy a Leon 1.8 20V Turbo as my next car if I can afford to buy/insure 1 round about 04/54 plate.

Anyway, my question is this: In my work a couple of the mechanics own Leons, 1 has a 54plate Leon 1.8 20V T Cupra, the other a 54plate Leon 1.8 20V T FR

Just wondered what the differences between the cupra and FR were? only physical differences I can see are the different alloys, FR has kinda anthracite more up to date ones where the Cupra has silver less nice ones, is it simply a re-branding of 2 identical cars?

Any info appreciated cheers.

yes its just a rebranding, the cupra became the fr at a certain point i am guessing to distinguish between the cupra and cupra r model better

as for differences between them i think it depends on the car

cheers for that guys, well both the cars look identical, interiors are the same, etc. both are 54plates as I say and were both registered roughly within a few weeks of 1 another.

Only differences are the badges obviously and the wheels and the colours, 1 is silver, 1 is black.

I think the FR only had a single CD player, as opposed to the 6 in the Cupra, and also has the silver wing mirrors, but basically the same car apart from cosmetics

not always, i test drove an fr with what appeared to be no cd player or it may have been a multichanger but was not in the head unit anyway as that appeared to be a standard tape player

Mines a 54 reg FR and I fekken love it to bits!!!! :whistle:

Anyone know what FR stands for ??? :confused:

Fr = formula racing
cupra = cup racing

The difference between them is at the boost (higher at Cupra) and at the fmic(i think that fr has side mount and not fmic). Regarding the exterior other members have replied to your question!!

In Continental Europe the differences between Cupra (non-R), Top Sport and FR were the following:

Cupra:
- seats marked "CUPRA"
- optional 4 seats instead of 5 (rear bench split into 2 separate seats with a small shelf in the middle). They were not Recaros.
- optional Recaro seats similar to those above
- 4WD on Cupra4 models

Top Sport:
- Aura CD player
- optional 4WD
- wing mirrors in body color
- same 17" wheels as the Cupra

FR:
- titanium silver wing mirrors
- specific seats with silver inset
- specific 17" wheels
- different ECU, similar to Octavia vRS

Standard and optional equipment was different from country to country. Mechanical parts were practically the same

Last Minute Edit: IMO I would take a FR with 4 Recaro seats, but this was not technically possible :) Cupra R has very expensive parts
