Model Year 21/22 Cupra Formentor ehybrid VZ difficult gearchange 2>3

Hello everyone,

I am a Cupra ehybrid 1.4 VZ owner, 31000km on the clock. The car runs great, no major glitches on v1940 accept for the occasional 'front assist' notification when its close to 0 degrees or below. I am planning to run the car for a longer time and there's one thing that concerns me. The gearshifts from 2 > 3 are going noticeable slower then all the others which are smooth and fast. When i run the car slow in traffic, the gearshift from 2 > 3 is ok. But the faster i drive, the more revs and power the engine makes when shifting from second to third, the more time the gearshift takes to the extend that i can hear the clutches slipping for a very short moment sounding like a 'squeek/whistle' like sound and i can feel a break in acceleration. Strange thing in this scenario; It happens almost every time i drive faster, but sometimes 1 out 10 its as crisp as the other shifts. And when there is a problem from 2 to 3, then i should feel at least the same scenario shifting from 4 > 5, but thats not the case.

So, is the gearshift from 2 > 3 for any reason more difficult for the DQ400e gearbox and do i have a future (and expensive) problem? Can a basic setting/reset for the DSG solve this ? I searched the web and found some footage where it looks like the 2 > 3 gearshift takes longer then the other ones, but i cant be sure. I am curious about the behavior of your cars (also the Leon VZ drivers which have the same system).

Thanx for your feedback !

Are you sure it isn't the electric motor kicking in? If you are accelerating harder than normal you'll be using both petrol and electric together. There's a post on here somewhere about the squeak (sounds more like a whoop to me) noise. My Leon does it occasionally when I 'surprise' it by putting my foot down - not enough for a kick down but enough for it to engage 'boost'.

It's exactly what you discribe. A 'whoooop' sound. But its not the electrics kicking in, the car is already boosting for a couple of seconds when the dials turn blue on the dash and there is a lot of power and torque working. When the DSG shifts ín the boost area, then you can hear the sound (but not always). What concerns me is that de gearshift is getting slower and slower handling the (more) power i ask from it which made me think that the clutches are slipping. But why only from 2 > 3 and not in 4 > 5 and other shifts ?

I've just driven mine and replicated the 'whoop'. happened from 2nd to 3rd but I didn't notice any noticeable break in acceleration. I wasn't on a road where I could try to get it to do it on 3rd to 4th but I can't remember it ever doing it on that change. You've got me worried now...

It absolutely doesn't do it in others gears, so it's specific for the second to third gear change. Mine does it only between 3000 - 5000 rpm on boost, where the torque of the engine + electric motor is working hard. Full throttle and changing gears at 6000rpm won't replicate the sound (besides shifting slower then usual). The fact that your car does it too specific in the same gears with more or less same circumstances tells me this can be a product characteristic? My car does it as long as i own it, now over 10000km driven and it does not get any worse. So how serious is it ? I think i will try to give the DSG a reset. Cant be done through OBDEleven but must be done through VAG-COM i believe.

I have too a 1.4 VZ 245 Hybrid , i didn't understand any ''whoop'' noise or clutch slipping , BUT just to know that the E-Boost is just for 8sec at the 245 version , then you have power down because the boost from the electric motor is much lower , you can feel it that the power drops BUT you can get again power if you release the kickdown button and press it again , i can do it without leave the throttle .
