Cupra Engine Cover Removal / Refitting HELP!

Hi All, just struggled to get the engine cover off to replace the air filter, took the engine cover apart to fit the filter all fine, reassembled said cover - fine.

Now the time to pop the engine cover back on and it doesn't. No amount of effort seems to be able to put the cover back on. Any tips? Is it because it's cold and the grommets aren't very flexible?

You need to do this;

1) Put rear 2 mushrooms on first - needs to be at an angle of about 35 degrees to horizontal to achieve this.

2) Clip on the connection to the feed to the turbo

3) Reconnect hose from DV

4) Pull the front toward you and down on to the front 2 mushrooms. Takes a bit of effort to do this. Make sure you dont nip the hose from the DV.

4) Check clearance for fuel pump etc

4) Reconnect MAF

The OEM engine cover is a pain in the hoop. Just takes a bit of effort to get it to fit properly.

Sussed it - when the cover came off all the rubber inserts which should stay with the cover remained on the posts, hence no amount of shoving would get them back on. Once I took a closer look and the grommet came off the post was the Eureka moment. Had one stayed on the post it may have given me a clue...

May this be of use to others. This is the most difficult air filter fitment I have ever done.

Yes, they are a nightmare. Taking it off without breaking it is an art in itself as well. Why they did it like this and not the old fashioned way is a mystery. There are even issues with fuel pumps because of ill fitting engine covers.

To be honest I don't find it very difficult to either remove it or put it back. To remove you just lift each corner and to put it back you just need to align each mushroom and push. As djhorace says start with the two at the back.

If you'd read my second post you'd see that the rubber grommets had been left behind on the posts, making replacement pretty much impossible (until I found about they were supposed to come off with the engine cover). But thanks for the helpful reply.
