Cupra 17 inch wheels

I've just picked up my Toledo, a 170 V5 on a 51 plate. The previous owner picked up some Leon Cupra 17s (5 spoke) and fitted them with what appear to be 225 on the front and 235 on the back.

Since I'm an 'old man' driver rather than an 'enthusiastic' driver, I was wondering what I need to be fitting as a generic tyre size, preferably the same front and back. I don't even know how wide the alloys are at the moment, having picked it up no more than an hour ago.

Should I be fitting the tyre size as used on the Leon, or do I need to be considering a different rolling radius, based on the Toledo's original 16 inchers?

I am not 100% but I think the 17" wheels are usually fitted with 215/45/17 tyres...... The tyres you have will not affect the driving of the car particulaly.... You just can not swap them around to even out the wear as you would have odd sizes on the same axle :)

The fronts are the 225, and the tyre looks 'comfortable' on the rim (if that makes sense). The 235 on the back is visibly bulged, I just don't trust it. Then again, I have to admit the 215 would also not sit straight on the rim.

So I think I'll go for the 225, thanks for the responses.

225 x 45 x17 will give about 25" rolling Dia which is about the same as the 225x40x18 I have on mine. The 235 sounds like it might be just a bit too wide for that alloy.

I've just managed to find a place that will do me four fitted on my drive for a little over £220, so I'm happy with that. Those are new, but 'no-name' tyres with a 'W' speed rating so they should suit my motorway driving.

I might be tempted in the future to do a straight swap, my 17's for a set of the standard 16's (with rubber), might there be any takers? When I get to ten posts I'll post a link to a picture of them!

Only thing you might want to watch out for is road noise of the cheaper tyres, especially for motorway driving as these cars are so quiet that is all I can hear on mine, which has sunny tyres and they are so noisy [:@]

I thought thats what the volume control on the stereo is for! :)

You are right though, I've already noticed it coming from cars with 14's and 15's, the road noise is much louder. Then again, none of my previous cars track like this does either!

Leeds is halfway? Eek!!

I'm sure that when the time comes we could sort something out, I think for the time being I'll be getting new rubber next week, and maybe when they are next due for a change I'll see whats out there. Given my current commuting mileage I reckon that'll be in about 4 months time!!

And despite this being my tenth post, it now says I can't post external links until my fifteenth post, so a preview is even further away. Then again, if you can check out item 170308398229 on Ebay, you'll see the car.

I might be interested too! I've got the standard v5 170 16" alloys with 205 55 16W Falken FK452's on them. I'm in Watford but as I travel oop norf every couple of months, I could easily meet you somewhere off the M6. Let me know if you want some pics of the wheels.

Cheers,

V5er

Likewise I'd be happy to do a swap. Like V5er I have Falkens, but std 150 v5 wheels.
Let me know if you are interested
