Crunch/Grinding noise when turning a sharp left

Hi all, would anyone beable to shed some light on this problem:

I seem to occasionally get a sort of ginding/crunching noise when i turn a sharp left (on to a drive way or into a side road). I wondered if was a similar problem to the antiroll bar links talked about on the forum?

Also when traveling straight my sterring wheel is ever so slightly off center, is this normal? (i've been told it's down to it being a small car with a longitudinal mounted engine causing the car to constantly pull to the left, however my sterring wheel is off key to the left?).

I haven't kerbed my wheels or bumped it up kerbs, but then again the tracking could probably be knocked out on a drain cover judging by its rock hard ride.

The car is a Ibiza 1.4 Sport, 4 months old with 2800 miles on the clock.

Thanks for any advice

Matt

You might well find it's your ABS triggering.

Sounds daft I know, but when turning on full lock at low speeds and my foot is gently on the brake, the ABS sometimes kicks in on mine, and that has an odd "graunching" sound to it. I reckon it's because the speed differential between the two front wheels on lock is enough to make the ABS think one of the wheels is locking in comparison to the others.

The engine's transversely mounted isn't it? Also the wheel should sit level when it's centred, or at least mine is...

ah yes tranversley, i knew that lol, dunno why I put longitudinal!

Could be the ABS now its been suggested as I am usually braking slightly when turning onto the drive. Thats ok then :)

My steering must be off key slightly then, i'll have that sorted on the first service, no doubt ill be charged!

thanks for the advice

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but my car seems to have this issue or similar.

At full lock turning left, say going into a parking spot you hear a dry grinding sound like the wheel is catching on some body work, but there is no sign of any catching, it seem to be worse if I have a passenger in or it's on a incline.

Any ideas at all?

I hear VW guys had racks done and it made no difference to what I am experiencing.

Been back out in it today and tested in a empty car park, no odd clunks on full lock in a circle or turning right. As soon as you turn left of maximum lock it at slow speed the catching noise starts there is no rub marks / scrubbing visible anywhere but really Loud scraping noise.

Well after investigation it turns out on full lock the tyre is just catching the inner arch liner, tracking is ok and nothing loose. Arch liner has now been trimmed a little and now no noise.
