Hi

I picked up my leon stylance yesterday, love the cruise control but someting occured to me which im wondering!

With cruise control activated obviously you can go up and down speed with the button on the stalk.

Thing i wondered is when u take the speed down, do the brake lights show to other road users in the same way they could if you were actually using the footbrake?

I just figured that if they dont it makes the cruise control potentially dangerous as you may be slowing down but other people do not know this and there fore they cruise straight into the back of you!

Do the brake lights come on if you take your foot of the accelerator and let it just slow down? Of course not, it's the same with cruise. If anyone hits you because you slowed down that gently then they would probably have hit you no matter what, with or without brakes lights.

The brake lights do not show when using the cruise control to slow down
i would have thought the slowing down via the cruise control would be the same as taking your foot of the accelerator , it did when i tried it

I'm not sure whether the car applies any brake at all during speed down while cruising. If I am cruising at say 40mph, the engine retardation retains the speed as best it can down hills. However, if I encounter a steep downhill, the speed will slowly rise as gravity takes over. This suggests that the system does not apply the brakes. (This is my guess, I could be wrong!)
