Creamy deposits on oil filler cap

Hi guys, was giving my engine a quick check over earlier and noticed a creamy goo on the inside of the oil filler cap and around the lip of the filler hole. After a bit of digging around the web iv read tht this cud either b due to a nackered head gasket or simply condensation. The car is only being used for short journeys at the minute (3 miles twice a day) so im thinking tht it is just condensation and nothing major as it is not eating lots of oil or coolant, but i just wanted to know wt u guys think about it seeing as im a relative noob to owning a lcr. Thanks for any help or advice u can give me

It's just condensation from the oil and nothing to worry about. If the head gasket was gone and oil and water were mixing then your oil would look like chocolate milkshake and your cooling system would be seriously pressurised with the hoses being rock hard. It looks like mayonaise but it doesn't taste like it.:D

The oil doesnt look like milkshake lol it still looks like oil to me. Im taking the old girl for a good blast nxt sunday so hopefully will know better by nxt week wt the prob is. Is there any way to stop the condensation build up or is it just summat we gotta live with?

It's just short journeys / not getting upto temp properly etc etc that causes it, good blast sorts it out

It could be that the car is running a bit cold or sometimes if you've installed one of those oil catch can things they seem to make it worse. You might find using different oil will sort it. There was a thread on here last autumn about the same thing but I don't know where it is now.

I agree! Headgasket would mean ur using alot of water too?! Just take her for a good thack now and again to keep her from doing it as much, but it will keep happening if your only doing short journeys i would think?!

could be down to the weather (condensation etc) is it using water, how much gunk is there and is your heaters blowing hot air, never read previous posts so dont flame me for asking questions that already been asked

This is why! I had exactly the same thing on my car. Panicked majorly as at the same time i had a coolant leak! Turned out it was due to condensation as i was only making very short trips to uni. And the coolant leak was down to the trusty water pump!

Go for a decent drive get the car upto normal temperatures and it will have gone by the time you get back!

if you can do them yourself paint them, if not, pay to get them powder coated' Thanks for the kind words too. depends what you into colour, i think a bright Orange would look good and different, if you dont like to stand out, Chrome black, or Anthercite

I was thinking maybe black or anthracite with a red lip and red wheel nut covers and maybe even red seat 'S'. Cud do with getting a photoshop mock up of a few designs to see wt they look like on standard cupra wheels

its not uncommon for the vag petrol engines to retain the internal condensation, this in turn mixes with the oil and leaves this crap under the filler cap.

nothing to worry about but as advised give it a few long runs to see if it improves.

you only need to worry if things like oil in the water or dodgy running occur.
