Creaking is driving me mad

I have spent the last few weeks taking various parts of my car apart desperately trying to find a nasty creaking in the rear of my Cupra. It's a 2000 W so I know it's old and shold buy a new car if I want a creak free one, but I really want to get rid of this one. So far I have tried the following:

1 Put tape around the rear seat locking catch
2 Oiled and greased the place where the rear seats pivot when they fold down
3 Removed the plastic interior sections around the front seat belts and checked all fittings were tight
4 Checked all screws and fittings were tight on all interior trim

But nothing seems to improve the creaking. It is worst when I drive reasonably slowly (30 - 40) over small stutter bumps or uneven road services (but is ok on speed bumps)..... If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful (I have searched on here and found the suggestions I mentioned above)

Mine was the rear seat post taped it up just as you have and sorted it, might be the rear door latch that can work loose.

i have a creak but its coming from the drivers side rear door card, one of the clips is broken on the inside so it moves a little, and its leather so it creaks all the more, im going to get my mate to get some body caulking to see if he can pad it out a bit,
It may be worth checking your rear door cards?

I had started to think it was coming from the Door or door lock so the door card might be something I can look at this weekend (the in laws are visiting so any excuse is good haha!). I've tried padding the spare wheel and tools, but I might actually try just taking them out of the boot for a quick trip.. good idea..thanks!!

My LCR creaks from by my feet when i turn either left or right!?! Its only done it since had coilovers fitted. Thought it may have been power steering fluid but thats fine.

Any ideas anyone?

Another thing to discount from my search to stop this creaking, some people have suggested it might be the boot catch not be a tight fit, hence there can be some movement, but I raised the 2 rubber stops which are just on top of the rear bumper and so it would ensure there was a snug fit with the lock.... however when driving to work this mornign the noise was just as bad 9if not worse) therefore back to the drawing board.. and will be taking the rear door cards off asap........ will keep you updated on this annoying saga!!

good old seat's. Mine is 2000 year and is rattling somewhere in the centre console like hell! i guess Audi's and bmw's are more expensive for some reason.. could it be it?

Nope.. tried that many a time... as I have with greasing the point at whcih it pivots when the reasr seats are flattened.... I have been reading a few older threads and I think it might be the top mounts .. either dry and in need of oiling or they have failed.

Well as we have had a very wet weekend I reckon the damp helped my creaking car.... as I did about 150 miles and everyone was creak free!!! on top of this I reckon I have narrowed the source to the top mounts and / or the top section of the dampners (covered by a rubber section). I sprayed a lot of GT85 in both areas before the rain fall and think this may have helped, will try some spray grease this week and up date when the weather dries up.

Ditto, Mine seems to have stopped creaking over the speed bumps now its wet.

Can you post pics of where you lubricated the mounts please. I want to get them lubed up too before the dry weather comes back.

This sounds like the bushes in the suspension, maybe the anti-roll bar bushes. I've had the same creak over speed bumps. My LCR is going to the dealer to have them replaced under warranty.

Try the cord return assemblies for the parcel shelf.

Or the warning triangle retaining strap in the boot.

Both these were a problem for me.

failing that, take off the inner boot trim and check all the clips, wires etc.

Good luck

I'm pretty sure it's not the interior boot trim or anything in the boot area, have tried moving it all at some point..... I recently had the dampners upgraded to the Koni FSD's and Jim at Star said my bushings were on the way out (but reckoned they'd have a bit in them yet) so might have them looked at. I'll try and get some pics posted over the weekend.

Damn.. the creaking has come back with avengence!!! I have covered everything I can think of with grease and still no luck.... I reckon I'm going to have to take it to the local garage and have the bushings and top mounts checked... as it's driving me mad.
