Creaking Dashboard

My Altea dashboard (2.0 tdi sport dsg) creaks. Sounds like it's from the top left hand side, where there appears to be one surface overlapping another. If you press on it, it stops.

Question is, if the main stealer looks at it, will it come back creaking in 3 or 4 more places? And after 3 or 4 visits as well (if it's the same as the wind noise, which I've given up on now).

Anyone else had a problem with the dash? Can the infamous Seat service network be entrusted with such a fault, and to conduct a speedy and effective repair?

PS Or should I wedge a piece of something in the gap?

PPS Is that what the dealer will do anyway?!

My '06 Toledo does this too.

I noticed last winter that it is much worse when the plastic is really cold after a freezing night, and the heater hasnt warmed up...then it creaks like hell for 2 mins while the heater gets hot. Then no more creaks once the plastic is warm.

I managed to get access to the problem area by removing the glove box, while not disturbing the main dash.

The problem seems to be the cheap low quality corrugated plastic ducting that is used to duct the forced air to the heater port. This rubs against a steel structural member and also has an electrical loom running over it at around the same place.

This could have been avoided by SEAT simply wrapping the duct in foam...another 10p saving i suppose....

However it is possible to wedge some silicone tubing (or similar substance) between the duct and the adjacent steel member and wiring loom to isolate each from the other.

This will improve greatly or eliminate the problem for you...depends on your personal success and the materials used.

mine creaks too. it goes away then the heaters warms up

How do you get access through the glove box? I have the altea for 2 years now. I went to the dealer 3 times and the never got it fixed. I think I will want to fix it myself now.

Can you show me how to do it please?

Thanks
