Well, i've never heard of anything like this before...I was driving home tonight & my speedo intermittently dropped to 0 sometimes for a few minutes (whilst travelling at 70 on a dual carriageway), I thought this was odd then i noticed the petrol gauge swinging widly about every few seconds from almost empty to half full ?

Anyone got any ideas?

My moneys on the speedo sensor on the back of the gear box.

If you have Vag-com it should throw up and intermittent fault.

Easy enough to replace and about £20 from the dealers IIRC. I have working one here if you want it.

My mate had this in his 205 and it was just dodgy sensors! Just replaced sensors and that was that. sorted! I'm guessing could be along those same lines????

no flickering lights & at no point did the coolant or rev gauges malfunction, just the speedo completely dropping off now & then and the petrol gauge swaying from a bit above zero to nearly half a tank, it was doing it every few secs like it couldnt make its mind up how much petrol i had :S

Surely it couldnt be a sensor if both gauges are acting crazy? could it really be coincidence

Did they both start happening at the exact same time??? If so may be some kind of relay connection problem? Not 100% sure of how the electrics hook up to the dash, but there could like a junction box type thing and the leads from both sensors could be lose? Just a theory anyway! lol.
Because on my mates 205 it was a gradual thing, and not all of them at once, so in his case it was definitely dodgy sensors. But doens't sound like that's your case if they happened at exactly same time!

When my car was playing up i removed the speedo sensor and took it for a short drive and it done exactly what you describe. I`d be very surprized if it wasnt after the symptoms you have given.

The exact thing happened to me a couple of months ago !!
It was the same, speedo and petrol

The RPM and Oil was fine
It fixed itself somehow and hasnt happened since, thank god

I know this sounds ridiculous but I filled up a full tank while it was happening and IT STOPPED LoL
