Hi All

MK4 Ibiza

Just got two very apart quotes for the rear bushes on my wishbones.

One garage said about £25 a side and another has said about £70 (per side).

The cheaper one mentioned that some places take out the whole wishbone where its not needed whereas the more expensive place says it must come out to be done properly.

The more expensive place likely would always have been more as its a nice shop, more staff etc however its a lot more!

Is 25 a side a cowboy quote or is £140 taking the hand.

My own parts supplied.

Thanks
Rob

So contacted the dealer today and they wanted £120 for sorting the bushes. So little bit less than what I was getting from the private mechanic who already was doing me a "cash discount"

Tempted to go for it as they will pickup and drop the car off for me so no hassle at all plus id be covered for 2 years should they fail!

Still getting the "thats a big job" from some and "thats a simple job" from others.

Is £50 too cheap, likely to be done half assed?

I just cant get over the price ranges.

A kit does exist to allow a workshop to replace these bushes while leaving the consoles in place - basically a professional version of the usual DIYer's threaded rod, nuts and washers. I would suspect that the cheapest places will no nothing in respect of getting everything back in the right place, or at least where it was prior to this work, and that will mean lots of money in uneven tyre wear. The issue is that when the outer end of the TCA is separated from its position at the bottom of the strut, unless it is separated at the taper it will not go together in the exact same position. On top of that, if you are getting better/stiffer bushes fitted it is the correct time to get a full four wheel re-alignment. Plenty people will say just get tracking done as the rear is fixed, but they miss the point that the rear might have damage so needs checking and it is wrt the rear that the front end get referenced to or the car will drive in a crab fashion and that will not feel very handy and will always cause uneven tyre wear. In short, ask what exactly the scope of the work is that they will be doing.
