Cordoba SX 2.0 16v - Headlight Dash Light Stays On

Hello all, hope you can help me with this problem, the first of many im sure with my new Cordy SX.

The headlight dash illumination bulb is permanently lit up.

I noticed earlier that one of the side lights was out, but after changing the bulb the problem still isnt resolved (didnt think it would be that simple). All other lights work.

Any ideas what this could be? Tom B mentioned on MSN that it could be related to the switch itself. But it does function normally, and the dimming controls, and headlight height adjust also function normally.

TIA!

memory comes rushing back in the form of a very thin object pushed up inside the switch ,tiny hole up inside the switch?

Hello give this a try to remove headlight switch:
1. Turn the headlight switch to the "headlights on" position, and pull the switch out to the "foglights on" position.
2. Insert a 2mm diameter drill or punch in the lower end of the switch, and push upwards to release the lower switch assembly securing lug, whilst carefully prising out the bottom of the switch assembly. Prise out the top of the switch assembly and pull the assembly out from the fascia.

Anyone else have any ideas? Or is it a case of an electrical minefield that will take months of chasing down to discover the problem?

I couldnt figure out how to get the switch out, might have a try this weekend. But it just looked like it was going to break when i tried.

dials are pretty straight forward to remove deako, but i am not sure what's behind it to illuminate.
the reason we mentioned the switch is that there's a fair few connections in the back of it from memory,so may be a duff connection on the back of the switch.haynes manual is available with some pretty good wiring diagrams.

Will have another go at getting the switch out in daylight on Friday and see whats what. Does the whole assembly come off, or am i just trying to lever the round switch part out?

(I know Mk2 Golfs inside out lol, could disassemble the whole dash blindfolded)
