THought about downsizing from my Toledo to an Ibiza, but have came across a Cordoba.

How much are they worth? 2003 130PD SE?

Are they just booted Ibiza's? What's room like in the back?

What sort of kit do you get and what size tires?

I take it you get good performance from a light weight car with a 130PD (even better when tuned :D

You'll get a much better deal on a Cordoba over an Ibiza due to the fact that they're not very popular. I like them personally, better than the Ibiza because they're different though, hence I bought an Altea rather than a Leon. Like to be a bit different.:)

It's the same as the spec you want too. PD130 SE. Goes alright. Haven't done anything to the engine other than a PD160 intake. The gear ratios are a bit too long for my liking at almost 80mph at 2K in 6th, but it helps the mpg I guess.

The SE doesn't come with alot. Apart from things you might expect, 4xelectric windows, and climate is about it. It even still has the horible plastic steering wheel you get on the lesser models (have bought a leather one for mine)

Standard they have 6x15 7-spoke alloys with 195/55 tyres.

Boot size is excellent although I think I will be going back to estates for my next car as the bootlid is quite narrow.

I don't know much about the toledo, but the interior of the ibizas/cordobas of this age feels quite cheap, and the light grey with dark grey dash with matching seats is really boring. I had a skoda fabia elegance before this and it was a much nicer place to sit behind the wheel.

I paid 4K for it in early 2008 when it had done 90K. It's on 107K now. I assume the credit crunch will have driven prices down to around the 2.5K mark for such a car now. Although the fact that it's a small car, diesel and does 50mpg, it still has alot going for it.

Tdi 130 se

I also have the 130BHP 1.9TDI. I got it new for £9.6k in 2004 and have done 110k miles in it so far.

On the positive is
The car has plenty of toque so 40 to 100 is good. very good on a motorway.
Its easy to do 60mpg if your careful (max i have archived is 85mpg following lorry from Spalding to Sheffield)
Its impossible to do less that 45mph even when driving at constant high revs and like a complete tw4t.
It will never breakdown, ever, I have done 110k and the only thing Ive broke is the cup holder spring!
Servicing is EASY really easy to do yourself.
Parts are VERY cheap as they are all standard VW bits.
Its the Cheapest VW polo (which is what it is) you can get, and comes with the same diesel they put in A4 estates.
6 speed is a MUST, allows you to choose what reves at any time
The boot is stupidly sized, you can fit several people in it. :)
you can get 5 people in the seats.
Electic windows,
Electric heated mirrors,
Climate control
Brilliant breaking power - due to reasonable sized disc brakes on a polo's weight
Max power and torque are in the mid range, so plenty of pull with out having the thrash it. (in fact top end revs is not great)
You can ALWAYS find your car, as it will ALWAYS be the ONLY new shape Cordoba in the car park.
It confuses coppers as they don't know what it is :)

Negatives
No leather
interior is plastic fantastic, like all SEATs
Does not like corners - very Front heavy for a polo, so a strut brace top and bottom is needed.
Boot opening is a bit small, but you do have doors to get stuff in.

Overall its the cheapest way (especially second hand) to get a TDI VW polo with as much power as a Polo can realistic handle.

If you like your car to be different to EVERYBODY else's, then go for it. if not get a golf or a polo.
