Hi all,

Thanks for looking into this post.

I have come across the problem with cooling in my 1.8t 2006 ibiza fr. The car started to burst the coolant from the cooling reservoir when stationary in traffic during the summer. I am doing very short journeys so i am not desperate to fix it but it has been long enough to deal with it.

Today i have checked the measuring block 001 and 004 and my coolant temperature was at 69 - 70 oC, where my dash showed 80oC. Both fans were not running and the temperature has not shifted during a 20 min idle run. Temperature outside was at about 8oC.

I am not sure what could be the real problem, but my intent is to change the temperature sensor and flush the coolant.

If anyone could please share their knowledge, i would very much appreciate it!

Do a compression test and/or a sniff test on the coolant to look at the head gasket.

You might get lucky and it could be the expansion bottle or cap, but it sounds like headgasket problems.

Thanks for suggestions. Is the compression test when you rev up the motor with open coolant cap, and observ for any bubles forming and eventualy collant escaping the reserviour?
I have also check engine oil cap and i did notice a white paste.

What would normally head gasket cost to do?
