Coolant temp sensor shot?

this fault showed up last month:
17704 P1296 Cooling system malfunction

yesterday I got this:
16502 P0118 Engine Coolant Temp.Circ High Input

Does this just sound like a duff temp sensor to everyone else?

Shopping list;
· 059 919 501A - green coolant temperature sensor
· N903 168 02 - round rubber seal
· 032 121 142 - retaining clip

I'll buy & fit the parts and find out...
Is there any chance that the P1296 fault is not the temp sensor, but (for instance) the coolant level sensor?

Hi Mate
Yes it is worth fitting
You will not need the clip to do the job though
Just the sensor and seal

Hi mate,

The 16502 fault definately sounds like senor or connection fault.

Can't find anything on 17704 but I would change the senor and re test to see if it comes back.

Thanks for the replies... noticed you were using the "17704" bit of the fault code (garage gave me the other half, and I looked it up in the guide), did a forum search, and found this link, which is great:

Do a search on the left-hand-side, with your fault code, and get a good description of the possible faults. Cool.
