Hey all,

I have a LEON FR TDi. I hooked the car upto VAG COM the other day to diagnose an intermittent EML and received the following code:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Address 01: Engine
Controller: 038 906 019 KG
Component: 1,9l R4 EDC 0000SG 5342
Coding: 00102
Shop #: WSC 06402
***************** **************
1 Fault Found:
17664 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (G62): Open or Short to Plus
P1256 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Readiness: N/A

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've searched on the forum and understand that this is a common fault with the LEON and an easy fix (replacing it). Can anyone point me in the direction of the coolant sensor location?

Is it in the coolant bottle or external?

Cheers

Cheers G2232. I've found it now.

Just reserved the sensor, clip and seal from my local garage for pickup tomorrow. Hopefully all will be well with her tomorrow night.

Make sure you VAG-COM the car and clear off the fault code relating to this once you've changed the sensor.

I've had two VWs where this sensor has failed now, and both seemed to run that bit better once I'd cleared off the fault code.

Stands to reason really; if the ECU thinks the sensor isn't giving it correct information, it may well revert to base map values rather than trust the actual reading given by the sensor.

Changed this a couple of hours ago. Had to go out and get some G12+ coolant as I lost a fair bit doing this. Topped it back up with coolant, waited for it to settle and then took it for a test drive. Problem solved it appears. I cleared the code just after I changed it.
