coolant/oil Temperature overheated

On way home from a night out last night, doing about 80's the temp on the oil started rising, i thought nothing of it, so i slowed and then all of a sudden the coolant shot to 120 and the beeps and lights came on, i stopped and popped bonnet, the coolant bottle was boiling and the cap letting excess pressure out.

I then drove home at 40mph and the temp was ok, is this the waterpump?

I didnt loose much coolant, and its not headgasket etc or anything,

What elose could it be?

Is there a fuse for the waterpump- or anything? or is it knackered?

Thanks i cant drive it now :(

might be waterpump yeah, if you replace it make sure you get one with a metal impeller as the plasic ones are pants !! common problem as you probably know :)

i know :( , just as it starts running 100%, hoses trouble then this :( Thanks to mike_ibizacupra for his helping hand at short notice :) top fella!

I looked down at the beeps about to swear cos i had over 1/4tank to go! and it was the coolant not petrol light

Cambelt hasnt been done yet luckily, and its kind of due one because of its age not the mileage, its had quite a hard life, track days, 2 years with a remap on top of that! two different remaps and a bigger turbo, not done too bad :)

it's possible it's the thermostat too - if the radiator is cold - the water doesn't get through.

Well if it's the pump... would it not make sense to get the belt done at the same time.. ??

Like Mike say's hope it all gets sorted for ya over weekend ;)

the top part number replaces all of the below numbers, so you just need to check which one you currently have in your car (stealer can tell you this etc)

Yeah im gonna get cambelt done at same time, its due so needs changing, im sure greg will pick it up if its the thermostat and replace that also, seemed fine at low rpm/low speed, e.g. 40mph but put your foot down and it shoots up!

im assuming its the waterpump, lost a bit of coolant through the expansion tank cap cos it got so hot.

If its the thermostat surely it would do it at 40mph too? fine when i was idling too, rolled down most of the hills and even drove with bonnet up for some of the journey! :)
