I was watching one of the new top gears the other day, n its series 8 episode 5, the one that starts off with the prodrive p2 car, has anybody seen/heard the dump valve in this car......sounds so cooool!

Does anybody know if it is possible to buy such a dump valve/blow off valve and fit it to a cupra?:D

Cheers

can see video of it here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo_D9hp-oa8

Naaaaaaah!

If you've got a Scooby, you need one of THESE dump valves...

And, no I would say you cant fit either of these to your Leon.

Atmospheric Blow-Off valve (Scooby) -v- Recirculating valve (Leon)

If you do a quick search, you'll find there's been a huge amount of discussion over the months around fitting BOV's to the Leons. It seems to be one of the perennial questions....... ;)

If i remember correctly, it wasn't the dump valve making the noise but the wastegate chatter.

But your right it does sound really good:)

yeah ... disconnect the DV from the intake pipe and plug the intake ... will sound good for a bit then 5psi limp mode.

I didnt know wastegates made noise? I thought that "rally car sound was due to WRC cars not allowed to fit blow off or diverter valves, and that noise is actually turbo backpressure

I thought it was wastegate noise as turbo stalls?

I think it happens in cars that have no dump valve. The compressed air from the turbo has no where to go when the throttle is released so backs itself back towards the compressor causing stall?

Or thats what i thought it was?

Anyway not good for the turbo is that lol :D

it seems ridiculous though, to eliminate the lag associated with no BOV, rally cars' ECU's keep injecting fuel when throttle is closed, the fuel burns in the glowing hot exhaust manifold and keeps the turbo spooling... im sure thats a lot worse on the turbo ...

Either Compressor Stalling (the wastegate chatter sound) and Anti-lag systems = short life for the turbo usually.....not a problem on a bespoke rally car with a full team of mechanics and a big budget.

Not sure how the P2's antilag etc would cope for normal road use......then again it was only a prototype and may never make the road
