Hello folks, Going to look at a cupra(k1) and a fr tomorrow and wanted to get as much info as possible.
How does the disc and pads last on these vehicles(in general or your experience appreciate it will be a lot of how it driven)?how much to replace????
Tyres?
Clutches/DMF -are they as weak as the S3 clutch once mapped or a little more forgiving due to wheel spin being allowed rather than out right grip?
Cambelt/water pump Every 4y/5years or 40k or 60k??
Is there any thing else i would need to look for as far as consumables are concerned?
Cheers B

Been covered a lot if you look bud and very much down to the driver.

I sold the car with almost 40k miles on original front discs and its second set of pads (they were well down).

Tyres can go from 1000 miles on the fronts to 10000 miles or so.

Clutches depend on how the car is driven. Mine was sold with the original clutch and flywheel. Others change theirs at 10-15k.

Cambelt will be as service schedule.

Bank on an oil change every 5k if you are sympathetic mechanically. The cam follower can wear, and the PCV can have issues over time too. If the car has a Rev C diverter valve, it would be wise to swap it for a Rev D.

Hi Al, both cars are 08 plates a bit older than i was idealy wanting but there close so i thought i would pop in and have a look.
I'm also wondering what the cupra is like for getting the power down in anything apart from bone dry tarmack?when remapped Is 300bhp thru the fronts a little too much? Is a 250 fr a better compromise of power and traction?

300BHP is fine though the font wheels. Suppose you may have issues in the wet - if that is a concern get a flash loader so you can go back to stock (240bhp) - best of both worlds.

Cupra all the IMO especially if you plan to modify.

Would echo everything Al has already said. My clutch was fine for stock & stage 1 when I replaced it (20k), but was slipping like fook at Stage 2+ after a further 3k-4k.

Tbh i would only stage1 at most, it would be my missus daily driver with the little one in i need the car to be reliable (i hope:cry:) and also a toy for me to blat about in at weekend if i can ditch the wife and kids![B)]lol Also not sure how much she would appreciate 300bhp [B)]
She will prob do about 14k a year so expecting to get thru some super unleaded...i'm sort of border line of needing petrol or diesel but not had a fast turbo petrol for a while so thats swaying me to cupra, last 2 cars been turbo diesels (remapped)

I do around 12-14k per year.

Putting in about £50-£60 p/w at the moment depending on traffic more than anything.

Flash loader would be perfect for your scenario. Leave it in stock for the missus and switch it over to the map at weekends.

All depends on your driving really. I know they're a different brake setup but I still have the original pads/discs on my FR and they've done over 90000 miles. Reckon they'll be due for a change at about 100k. That's motorway driving for you. :)
