Connecting an NW HD5 MP3 Player

Hi, I 'm a bit of a novice when it comes to car stereos so please point me in the right direction if this has been asked before.

I would like to connect my Sony NW HD5 MP3 player to a standard Leon Aurora head unit. I have read the post about connecting an ipod but that seems fairly complicated and I'm not sure that I need those parts.

All I want is a 3.5mm jack plug at one end which will fit into the headphone/line out socket and plug into the back of the head unit instead of a CD changer (i don't have one). I don't want a charger or anything like that.

Is there a simple way of doing this? If so can you please tell me what I need.

Also will it make any difference that I have a Bluetooth kit connected to my stereo as well?

Thanks for the info, I guess that is the only way to do it then, I was looking for a more simple solution but I guess it is not to be.

With regards to the HD5 it is excellent, great sounding, huge storage capacity and tiny in size, once you get one you will wonder how you got by without one.

No sign of the infamous button cracks yet but I have the 30GB model with black buttons and it seems to be only the silver buttons that have this problem.

My CD player will be made redundant once I can connect it to my head unit.

I second the connects2 box. Sound is much, much better than the FM modulators! They are cack once you have it wired into the proper AUX/CD Changer phono connectors.

My 2p :)

How come you can't just hard wire it into the back of the stereo? All I want is the sound coming out of the MP3 player, I don't want to actually control it.

Is it not possible to buy the plug that fits the back of the radio, chop the end of my RCA to 3.5mm cable and connect the four wires into the relevant places and use this?

I beleive (I may be wrong) but you need the connects2 box there to convince the HU that a CD changer is still attached and allow input from the RCA at the back. Without the box telling the HU there is a CD Changer there, it wont accept any signal coming into the RCA's, and hence you cant just use a 2xRCA->3.5mm cable. This is how it works on my Sony unit and also the majority of other units on the market.

Thanks Chris, I thought it may be something like that, looks like there is no easy eay round this then.

My main issue is that it's a company car and I didn't want to mess about with it more than absolutely necessary.

If you have to supply another power supply what has anyone done to do this and how?

Ive got a sony hd3 mp3 player and its mint, I used the connects2 box but if you have the single cd head unit then you will need the £20 lead for your stealers as you will require this lead like i did.
I then took a tap off my ciggy lighter, and ran the power lead and the 3.5mm extension lead from my connects box up into the arm rest where my mp3 player sits, its so neat and sounds mint.
hope this helps.
