condensed headlights

hi. a little help please. i was just wondering if anyone knows how to remove both headlights out an 04 ibiza sport. they both get very condensated and wanted try to seal them up before the weather really gets wet and damp. also my o/s/r boot tail lamp mists up, not as bad tho. im a tight lad and dont really want to fork out for new lamp units, rather spend it on diesel.

i posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about my creeky window, made it 50% better now, and ive fixed the rattle above my head in the headlining, some good old fashioned rag from work has cured it hehe.

misted up headlights is a very common problem with mk4 ibiza's

stick a hair dryer into the back of both lights, then stick some silica gel packets like you get in shoe boxes to the inside of the bulb cover, then drill 2 holes in the rear bulb cover too

this should work unless you are getting water drops running down the inside of the lens

do a search mate, there is loads on this subject

cheers. im sure i can modify my lights, can be good at the od boge or two. i did notice earlier whilst giving the old car a polish that the headlight seal between the clear lense and black plastic was a bit iffy, naj'd it up to see what happens in the future. i ran the engine for 20mins earlier with main beam on to help them dry out a bit. thanks and i will see what i can do

Going on from that, is it possible to clean the inside glass of the lamps? Mine have had droplets of water in them in the past, and one of them is stained with watermarks on the inside?

Any ideas?

misty lamps are easy to fix, you dont need to modify them or take them out, just take of the backs on a dry day and go for a 30min drive or so, the warmth from your engine is enough to dry them out. then just repeat until its all gone.

silicon grease around the rubber seals helps them seal better. dont use anything oil based though or it will rott the seals.

Head-lamp vent kit

I have read that there is a VENT-KIT for front lamps, I expect them to be redesigned rubber boots for the seal between the plug and the lamp-shell, incorporating holes. ( to be fitted correct way up).
I had this trouble in the '90's, and found it was my own fault for putting the boot upside-down.
Short lamp life is clearly down to moisture.
My present Yaris foggs-up when jet-washing, but using dipped beam for traffic visibility gets rid of it smartish. My Son has yet to remark on the 03 reg IBIZA I gave him 4 weeks ago.

I 'phoned my dealer today, and was told that the "factory" cure is a revised properly ventilated headlamp shell, at great cost (>£100 + VaT each ).
He did confirm that removing the shells from the car, and drilling, carefully, a couple of vent holes, slowly to avoid cracking the perspex, does work, helped by improving the seal/bond at the edge of front "glass".
In my own car, I shall just use the dip-beam heat to clear the little bit of mist I get after hand-washing the car, and rinsing by hose.
