Condensation inside of rear windscreen, usual problem?

Hi all,

Picking up my Leon Cupra R 225 at the weekend. Noticed a bit of condensation on the inside of the rear windscreen, not the front or rear side windows as I gather from on here is a common problem. Dealer said it was just because it had been raining the day I drove it and adjusting the aircon sorts it out.

Guess I should have thought to search online for this sort of thing before I committed to buying the car but I walked at first because he wasn't moving on the price, then he rang me back out of the blue yesterday and we reached a deal :)

Anyways, haven't read anything about anyone getting condensation on the inside of the rear windscreen but is it likely to be caused by dodgy seal somewhere in that area the same as the ones that cause problems on side windows? Anyone had to fix this?

Cheers

yes its common, although anything in the car that is wet, can aggrivate the issue.
Are any of the carpets wet after a good rain? door seals are a common issue.
If you get a chance visit car after a good downpour and check if any of the carpets near doors and in boot are wet, or any water sitting on sit when you open a door.

Check rear washer is working and the pipe has not come away and for any wetness in boot.

OK cool, thanks for that. In the event that the seal will need sorting, am I right in thinking it will just be the seal around the boot since there is no window mechanism?

well the seal issue i was refering to was really to do with the doors rather than the boot, as this is a fairly common issue. Can be pricey to pay a dealer to do it, or if you are ok diy can be done for £20 or so for all doors.

There isnt a common issue with boot seals as far as im aware.
However im my experience, when i suffered from the door seals leaking the rear window was often the one that cleared last and held condensation longer. Probably due to its location and not getting much circulation.

This time of year condensation is an issue in most cars although if there are any leaks then it can be very bad in a leon.

I would check inside boot to see if its wet, i suspect it wont be.. but there is no telling what previous owner used the boot for...

if there is any signs on wet carpets in any foot well its likely to be the corresponding door leaking.

Here is a thered on this issue:

*** ok so search function isnt working for me, so search for 'leaking door seals' there is a sticky thread on this.

As ive said above and rsmith has also commented on, check to see if the rear washer is working, ~(as in spray) as its possible the pipe has come away inside boot and is leaking.

But it also could be simply that the car is driven with several occupants.. plus heater is on,. then parked up. This alone can cause condensation due to humid air and lack of circulation.

If its just rear window its unlikely to be anythuing seriouos imo.

OK I'll get on that when I pick the thing up. If it's the hose then I'm not paying up until the dealer fixes it :)

Thanks for the advice guys.

Turn all your heaters up to max so that it's like an oven. Then open the windows as you're driving along to expel the warm moist air and replace it with the cool, dry air from outside.
