Hi chaps and girls,

I'm looking at buying a new Leon FR. Yesterday I had a wander round the forecourt at the Seat Stealership in Stockport, nearly every Leon had quite bad condensation in the headlight unit. I was wondering how many of you are suffering this problem and do you think it's a manufacturing fault, maybe with the seal??
I was a little put off by this.

I look forward to your comments.

Yup fairly common problem on mk1 leon/mk2 toledo/mk4 ibiza etc etc. Seems quite common on modern cars tbh as have seen in on lots of non VAG cars as well.

Its because the outside is cold and the air inside is warm equaling condensation. Easiest way round it is just to crack the back of lights off, leave the lights on to dry out and reseal

Yeah, I have it on my Ibiza FR. Asked dealer about it and they said it was common due to the material that the headlight units were made of (can't remember what material they said) They also said that they used to fix them under warranty but they don't now.

Mike my Leon Mk 2 FR has an issue with the condensation in the headlights. The exception being that my headlights contain WATER not condensation[:@] This is clearly a manufacturing defect, due to a break in the weld of the polycarbonate lense where it meets the headlamp body, which allows excess moisture to enter.

This is hopefully going to be resolved shortly. Apparently there is a test that if the headlights clear of condensation after 20 minutes with the dipped beam on, then the headlights are considered OK:blink:

Eventually if the headlights have condensation on a regular basis this will lead to a build up of mould and algae:wtf:

With the amount of water droplets and condensation in my headlights it would probably take 6 months!!

mine has it, but strangely enough only on the passenger side. The g/f's bro's astra vxr also has the same problem at the back...I'm not worried at this stage though...

My New Leon FR is outside 24/7 and gets washed every week and not seen any appear on any of my lights
