Suspension kits come with lowering springs at a fixed amount of mm and a set of sports dampers to match.
Coilovers come with the same but can be height adjusted usually anything from 30mm to about 100mm.

If it was adjustable then it was either one of those cheap sets with some type of clamp on the spring or a set of coilovers.
Yes the advantage is the height is adjustable between 30-100mm. In many cases though a nice 40mm suspension kit is sufficient for a decent ride height and improved handling.

As said the advantage with coilovers is that you can set the height exactly how you want it.
Springs and shocks kits are normally more comfortable and less harsh so a better option if you only want a off the shelf drop. Price wise you'll also usually get a better quality springs and shocks kit for the same price coilover kit with coilovers being quite a bit more.

so whats the score for us TDi owners can we have kits to fit other leons , ie R etc or the golfs - supposidly on the same platform
whether its a myth , but have been told that puting golf springs on mine would actually raise the car ??
what would be the better option , i want to keep an oem ride quality , stiff but not harsh and want it a little lower
i had spax adjustable dampning on my fiesta which was only 40mm drop alround , in the end i hated driving it after the leon came

I'd say go for a good quality springs and shocks kit, something like the Weitec Ultra GT 30mm kit would be a good option.

Good quality coilovers are for fine tuned adjustments to bump, rebound, height etc to maximise a cars handling and with the cheap ones primarily for looks. A suspension kit is a matched system giving uprated suspension over standard to remove the compromises the OE kit has ie ride height and stiffness at the cost some comfort(usually). Coilovers sound great but you get what you pay for as you will see them around for £200-£2,000+! A suspension kit wont have the sitting on the floor look like coilovers can but lowering beyond the point of parrallel front wishbones will do your handling no favours and get your sump very close to the tarmac along with a gradually worsening ride as you steal the length from which the coilover has to react. I have cars set up with both and for the leon id recommend a good spring and damper kit but each to there own it depends what you want to achieve.
just want it looking a little lower to arch /floor not craxy and scrapping the floor
also want to improve the handling too , have upper and lower S3 braces
also have to take into account its a daily driver & i have alittle nipper !!!

I was thinking either the STR Koni's @ £310
or
the SPAX VSX @ £275
Only thin is the Koni's go to 35mm where as the Spax are 30mm. I dont really want to go any lower than 30mm as I've herd stories that going any lower can cause problems in the future, damage to other parts/clearance etc !
I dont know much about the SPAX brand name though !
Please dont recommend anything above the prices above as I cant aford it.
The Weitec Hicon GT Coilover Suspension Kit (£390) took my fancy as well, again I dont know too much about Weitec as a brand.
35mm is on stock leon.. minus 10mm for the cupra and -15mm off that for the r.
so 20mm on the r and 25mm on the cupra.
Do most people find that, with shock & spring packages of equal drop (40mm front/40mm rear) that the rear seems to sit lower than the front?
I have seen this on a few occasions.
If this is the case, would it not be better to get a 40mm front/30mm rear package for example?

So my cupra R is sitting at 20mm dropped already then? Thinking about it dropping another 15mm prob wouldn't be too bad actually. I may just stump up for the Koni's @ £310 then.
The Koni STR.T kit is a good choice and I'm sure you wouldn't be too low with it.
