Coilover problems,

I've noticed since having my FK coilovers fitted, 9 times out of 19, there is a loud clang when turning right only, and ONLY on the spot or moving slowly,

Now ive had a search and it sounds like its something to do with the spring sticking and then jumping round???????

Now will i have to raise it slightly or is it something to with the ARB or bushes?

Any help would be highly appreciated

Many Thanks

Adam

did u use the new droplinks supplied by FK ?????

He would have mate as we didnt fit the FK droplinks at first but when driving in a straight line you could hear the old drop link rub against the drive shaft!!

Your problem Sisson is that the new drop link bolts to the ARB and brings it close to the inner arch guard. On full lock it gets caught behind the guard. The noise is it passing back across the guard. Simply sorted by taking a very small section off the guard with a stanley knife!! Put on lock slowly until u hear the noise, get out and have a look - you'll see what i mean.

Hi mate,

Ive got an H&R Cup Kit with a 50mm drop and get a similar clang noise - is it metal on metal?

I had mine on the JBS ramps and could see a slight scrape on the ARB and the rear wishbone iirc. When the car is near full lock, the 2 collide (not too badly though) because the lowered suspension brings them to the same height.

If it is this - just make sure you dont reverse off a kerb with your wheels at an angle, otherwise your brief period of 'air time' will force the ARB under the wishbone and CLANG! Done it once - never again!

Otherwise the damage is cosmetic and only to the decree of scraping the paint off.

All sorted now,

Andy, you were right, i turned the wheel and saw that the new droplinks were catching the arch liner,

Out with the stanley knife and, its sorted,

Cheers all

I've tried cutting the inner arch area around the droplinks. There is now loads of room around them but still the knocking continues. Is a shame sounds exactly as you described it.

Just had a thought. Could this be dodgy droplinks. They were replaced along with the ARB bushes 15000 miles ago.

i just cut abit away from my guard tonite to see if it would stop the clunk but it hasnt as soon as it makes the noise i went out to have a look . Can't see anything hitting anything so it must be my top mount or spring not sure . It has made this noise right after i put the coilovers on . months ago . Oh yeah andy i have my dampers set to the hardest setting its the only way i can stop the thing being really crashy over bumps and suggestions ?

I have not made any mods to my car anyway. The droplinks were changed along with the bushes under warranty 15000 miles ago. The car is no longer under warranty.

I was thinking of uprating the ARB to the Cupra one and will buy new droplinks then.

Just notced, it only seems to happen when turning right. It happens mid way through right hand lock. Only at slow speeds.

^^^^ they are the same symptoms that i had...

It will be the top of the droplink catching the splash guard.

Turn wheel till it clunks then get out and have a nosey around the front and see where its hitting it...
