Coil packs

Think a coil pack has gone - I'm assuming these are the same things as 'ignition coils' that cost £20 from Euro Car parts?

Don't want to get stung by the stealers

Yep, plugs onto the spark plug and a 4 wire electrical connector.

ECP do several makes, I tried 3 of them today

So which one did you go for?

Just noticed they're £30 plus, once VAT and delivery is added - probably cheaper to get one from the dealer after all

Or I could get the AA out to sort it and save myself the hassle - reckon they'd charge more than £30 for the pack?

I paid £52 ish for two.

BREMI which the ones recommended by my parts expert and MEAT & DORIA which carry a the AUDI symbol.

There was another make, but I don't have the box

Had to use two different brands as several of the batch I tried appeared to be d.o.a.

i paid £25 inclusive at my local skoda dealer.
vw audi seat all wanted touch under £30.

Got the AA out in the end - patrolman obviously advised me not to drive the car without replacing the coil pack and as I can't get to a dealer until next week had no choice but to pay for one (albeit an OEM one) from him .... £41!!!

Still, all sorted, engine light reset etc, so I guess I'll just order a spare in case another goes soon (as is likely I gather).

Idling speed

Now then,

Since the coil pack was replaced the engine is idling at 750rpm - I'm sure it was at 1000 before - could this be a problem?

1000 is too high for tick over except maybe when cold.
id say about 850 is about right.
750 sounds ok if its ticking over smoothly.
