Coil pack help!!!

Hi all,

I’m looking for some info please. I have done several searches on this and other websites regarding coil packs.

The general consensus is that VW will automatically replace coil packs that are faulty, however SEAT appear to drag there heals prior to completing any work.

I have had some recent problems with my car (see Lumpy Engine) which has now been diagnosed as faulty coil pack, however when I called my local dealer they advised they have never heard of any problems with the coil packs and would not complete the work for free unless car was under warranty.

Does anyone know if SEAT have this as a known fault which should be replaced free of charge and if so how you go about getting the work done? I.e contact SEAT direct, tried today but they are closed.

I'm looking to get this work done asap as I need my car for work.

Also if SEAT won't replace, I know the items are fairly cheap - does anyone know how to fit them?

Again your help is appreciated.

coilpack

these coilpacks are fairly easy to change, just remove engine cover and undo the electric conector from the coilpack, pull it out and replace with the new one! I have a spare if u need pm me i can get it deliverd to your door for £25

An update for those interested - I contacted SEAT UK customer services to ask if they would replace the coil pack free of charge.

I was advised it would be unlikely but they would look into it and contact me back.

Got a call yesterday and was advised it will NOT be replace, even though VW recognise it as a fault and have replaced them on their cars!!!

I know I have gone on about this a bit but £100 for a part that I'm not convinced is faulty is a lot of money.

A few times I have started my car it has ran fine. Switch of ignition and switch on again it's running just as bad???? I thought the coil pack would be a constant problem.

I am booked in to get a full diagnostic this week.

Will keep you all updated.

Cheers.

Yeah I agree - by the way thanks for the offer of the coilpack but apparently it's not a different coil pack for each plug but a single large one that all the leads plug into.

The V5 has one coil pack assembly attached to the cam chain cover with five coils encapsulated in it and HT leads to the plugs. In addition there appears to be a separate electronic box between the ECU and the coilpack, called the "output stage".

The coil packs that you will see discussed here are mostly the individual packs for the 1.8T engine, that fit on top of each plug, down between the camshafts. Your pack is quite different.

You need VAG-como or the equivalent to identify any errors that are being logged by the ECU that will help to identify the source of the fault. If it is in the ignition system, HT leads are the No. 1 suspect, followed by plugs, coilpack, LT connections between the modules and finally the sensors. Get the fault positively identified first.
