Yey or nay?

I'm sure the newer clutches are weaker.

Please state year of motor and map manufacturer.

June 2005, Revo, Yes.

Haven't had mine done yet, but this thread might help me decide whether it is worth it.

Might also want to include driving style (do people put their foot down below 3k rpm etc?)

Nah if you can make it slip regardless of "driving style". I don't want to have to adjust my style after shelling out wonger.

i think there is 2 part numbers on the system for the clutches , theres the sachs made one that is in from factory and another one which is available as a part also which i believe is cheaper ( less durable maybe) i think its boge-unsure

04 LC Tdi - 33k miles.

Dual mass flywheel knackered and uprated friction disc fitted.

I drive mine right through the gears most of the time, rarely use the 'torque' as CC said it was a good way to kill a clutch.

Well if you dont wanna shell out for another clutch, i suggest switching off your remap!

Mine used to slip when i drove it like a tit (stamping on the throttle at any RPM) but doesnt anymore after a quick bit of JBS/CC ECU treatment. Mine has 62k though so it'll be on its way out anyway so i dont mind so much.

End of the day, if your driving your car beyond its manufactured spec, expect to support the Clutch / Brakes / Suspension accordingly, and preferably before

Slips in 4th upwards when stock now. Damage has been done.

Mine is on 50k, mapped since 43k.

Modding, mugs game. I know it's not stock and not designed for it but plenty of Cupra TDi owners have no problems at all. So, is it the recent FR's or a recent map change?

I had my FR remapped with Upsolute at around 12k miles. Month or so into having it done, clutch was slipping in 4th upwards and not long after, 3rd was also affected. 5th and 6th acceleration was a joke as even a light dab of throttle causes slipping.

Contacted Simon Coe who did the remap, he told me maybe 1 in 10 VAG cars he deals with have clutch issues with remapping and can usually be sourced to faulty clutch components.

He suggested i try getting a new clutch under warranty, and so reset the car to standard (to avoid warranty issues). Sure enough, the clutch slipped still, albeit not as much. Took it to SEAT, where they replaced the clutch, cylinders and release bearing with no questions asked (well, after a quick test drive to prove it slipped). Surprisingly good service.

Had the remap back on about a year now, it's never slipped once, and am at 26k miles.

Cold weather does increase the chance of slipping (more torque produced)...

It is annoying when it does slip though, relaly hampers driving enjoyment.

Ive had CC on my TDi since 8,000 miles its now on over 40,000 miles with not a hint of clutch slip. I was half expecting it coming upto winter and getting colder, but nope, non... nadda!

The three main points of getting clutch slip are.

1. Driving style, if you boot it at 1,500k expect clutch slip sooner rather than later.

2. Remap, alot arent clutch friendly and will kill your clutch esp. when still booting it at low rpm's

3. Milage, a standard clutch, with standard map on can get clutch slip either due to overall milage of car (50k plus) or due to #1 within a short time.

Now in Ed's case, I personally think all three might be to blame :p

But now CC is on, as he has mentioned no more clutch slip (for the time being anyway!)

2005, AMD remap from New. Slip within 2000 miles, in 2nd,3rd and 4th, replaced with Sachs Organic and not one problem ever since "Touch wood".

Slick, it'd been worth trying out the warranty option first i reckon. I had my car booked in for the £750 odd to have a sachs clutch, but after consideration, tried the warranty route and a year on I have no slip and £750 in my back pocket...

Actually I lie, i've long since spent the £750 on other stuff :)

Well i did book it in for a new clutch thou the stealers, but then at last minute i thought, well get for free and spend more money on the car and more power, so end up needing a uprated one anyway... do just bit the bulletm, but then i also got the ATB diff and short shifter and etc done at the same time, and well doubt the stealer would replace the clutch if that one was to be a "faulty" one then... least now i get to use every once of that torque i have...

2005 FR+, 13k miles, remap from local N.Ireland Tuner, 194 bhp & 308 llb/ft.

1k miles since remap and alls good so far...
A bit of 'torque-judder' when accelerating in too high a gear though would never floor the throttle below 2k-2.3k revs...

My map seems a bit more progressive compared to the Revo maps which seem to have more of an initial power-burst.

I might just set fire to it and buy a PD170.

You go for DMF too did you say? £££???

It will be due it's cambelt in 10k (3month) so I could have it all done then. Probably at an independant rather than a dealer.

Yeah and have the same problems on that..... Same internal resrictions and weak parts in the recycle waste bin from VW... lol

No, i went for the direct replacement Sachs clutch... kept the DMF... will go to single when i push the injectors and etc in for 280bhp.... [B)]

And yeah go independant JBS/Jabba is perfect for such things.... ;)

Me costó sobre 1175 Euros para el montaje y la guarnición de embrague.

Sorry spanish mode on..lol

It cost me about £750 for the clutch assembly and fitting.

But that was with all the work at the same time, but i think Uncle fester and Paul2392 have done another cheaper route with friction plates and they are working fine, so have a word with them, if £750 odd is a little steep...
